The OBJECTIVE lens is the one in the front of the scope-- you DID NOT take it apart did you?

You only needed to clean `the outside of the glass elements. Read my tips on my profile page about why you never disassemble these and or eyepieces completely.

What foclelength of lenses are required to construct a telescope

Eyepieces determine the magnification of the scope-- first determine the focal length of the scope. It should be in the manual or written somewhere on the scope -- let's assume it is 1000mm.

So a 10mm eyepiece will give you 100 power

1000 divided by 10

a 20mm eyepiece will give you 50 power magnification

1000 divided by 20

I have an older model meade etx astro telescope i see nothing but black when looking through my telescope..the lense cover is off...the mirror is in the up position like it should be....its nothing but...

Can you see Light through it during the day time? If you can nothing is wrong. Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the TOP and try focusing on a distant object during the day time.

Turn the focus knob until you get a sharp image.

When I look through the lense everything is just black

Take the scope outside during the day time. Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the TOP diagonal. There is a "flip" switch on the back that changes between the rear photo port to the TOP eyepiece port.

Flip it one way or the other until you can see light through the TOP eyepiece. Practice focusing on a distant object during the day time.

How to set up a Meade telescope, model 293--without manual, how do the lenses get set up?

Meade has all of their manuals on this web site:

http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html

You never said what is the NAME of the scope. Anyway find your telescope on this page and download a free manual.

The LARGER the number written on the eyepieces the LOWER the magnification. Start out with the eyepiece with the largest number written on it and practice focusing on a distant object during the day time.

Basically i have just brought this meade ETX80 AT secondhand.i can't really set it up properly, when i put the lens in (26mm),it still seems that a star is like looking through a pair of binoculars.what...

Go to this web site and download a manual:
http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/ETXtelescopes/ETX-80AT.pdf

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope. Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object.

Stellar objects are VERY tiny. They will NEVER be "staring me in the eyes". Read my frequently asked questions TIP on my profile page.

First you have what we call a department store telescope. It is 60mm, not much bigger than a pair of 10x50mm binoculars. Do NOT use the 2xbarlow if you have one, Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope and go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object.

You probably will not find a manual-- however Meade telescopes maintains a web site for their scopes. Look under REFRACTOR on this page for one similar to your telescope. They all work the same way:
http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html

Then read my TIPS on my profile page.

Cannot focus a Meade Refractor "Electronic Digital" series

All of Meade's manuals are listed here--
http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html

Take it outside during the day time-- put the eyepiece with the LARGEST number written on it into the telescope--- this is the LOWEST magnification.

Point it at a distant object and practice focusing-- the moon should be your first night time object.

No schematics out there for that model, although there are ones for the LX classic and GPS. The center contact is positive.
