Mv600i digital video camcorder - no image on lcd screen in cam or playback mode

please someone help with this. My camcoder works very well when watching things I've filmed before but when I want to record it does not function. All I get on the LCD screen is the blue screen with Canon on it and through the lens it is black. The lens cap is of course removed. Then when I turn the red button to off position the camcoder does not turn off and the screen remains blue. I have to remove the battery to turn it off.
I've had my camera for 4 years and I filmed so many precious family moments in it.

After dissasembling a Canon MV600i the unit will not power up

If you are absolutely sure that you have all cables hooked up and hooked to the correct plugs, and also you know positively that the battery or power source is putting out the proper power, then I would suggest that you look at each cable again and make sure that they are inserted fully and correctly. By correctly I mean to look at the ribbon cable when it is removed to determine which side the metal contacts are on. The cables which push in only have metal tangs on one side. The cable plugs only have metal contacts on one side also, usually the part which does not face the board. It is a common mistake to face the metal side of the ribbon cable towards the board (you would think they would be designed to go that way). This would be wrong in most circumstances and would not allow the signal to pass. Connectors which require you to lever up a lock away from the board usually hook up opposite to what I just described. That is why I say to check each one again. If you look at each ribbon cable you can determine which side has the metal tangs, then look at the plug and determine which side has the metal contacts, match the two together and you have it. Removing each ribbon cable, checking for proper orientation, and reinserting fully should solve your problem if you have truly not missed any wires. I find that a little bit of electrical cleaner on the cable end makes the wire insert easier and less chance of damage as well as hopefully cleaning any oxide off the connectors on the way in. Good luck.
