Question about Garden
The main spring breaks out of the center piece that the rope is wound on. You have to take the broken end of the flat spring out, file a special divit into the spring steel the same as the stock end was (NEVER BEND SPRING STEEL), wire the spring coil at least five places or it will explode in your fingers, and then insert your new end into the center piece with a twisting action. Now pack the spring up into the unit while releasing the five wire ties on your coil with the last action pressing downward with your thumbs so the spring is in there and the rope is wrapped on the center piece - ready to revolve the spring and get more tension as the rope comes out.
I did this in an aluminum boat on a 9.9 Mercury motor in the middle of a Northern lake one time!
Draining old gas before winter storeage helps to reduce endless pull starts which break these springs. A good trick is to take out the spark plug and load it with a squirt of new gas rather than pulling very old gas down the carburator line into your engine which makes you pull the chord forever without results, and break the spring.
