Question about Sony Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I bought this from a thrift store for $10 bucks. It works fine in normal mode but when I switch it to surround mode everything turns into static. No matter what input I select or what surround mode it's in it is static. I was thinking it's a bad surround amp. Is this something a reasonably tech saavy person could repair themselves?

Make and model number first, then the manual. Then (maybe) a solution.

Maybe run it by the manufacturer's support site or these guys...

Have you looked at the manual?

It sounds like you are activating a test mode to set your surround speaker levels.
Usually you should do this before using any surround sound modes.

If you could post the exact model; we can search for an owners manual.

Why does one radio have static when turned on?

Try swapping batteries. A bad battery, even coming off the charger will give you squelch. If the sound follows the radio, there is no adjustment or repair. If it is the volume loud all the time, it is the on/off switch. No one sells them because it is a disposable radio. You could try to resolder the switch or buy a used radio from a garage sale or thrift store and take parts off it. So, invest some time and it may work!

I have no sound coming from surround speakers and sub.

Some surround modes switch speakers on or off as required. It's possible that the inputs you are using have settings that remember your previous settings, ie: no sub and surround speakers. Check the inputs and also make certain that whatever is connected to them is putting out Dolby signals.

My husband ran over the back wheel on my daughter's pretty in pink bike. where can I get a new back wheel for this bike?

Any bike shop and some of the smaller town hardware stores. All you need is the size to find a replacement. You can probably find one that will work nicely at a thrift store for about 10 bucks. You will get the whole bike but you can just salvage the wheel.

Phillips jogproof 45 esp stopped turning on

Unless something has happened to it in the last hour then it would seem the problem has something to do with the batteries or connections or the way you fitted them.
Batteries should be fitted with the greatest care as accidentally putting them in wrong can cause terminal damage to the device - in a second!

It isn't unknown for a new battery to be faulty so I suggest you first test the batteries and if ok next check the terminals in the battery holder appear new and shiny and thoroughly clean any that aren't.

The film advance lever is stuck on my Minolta Hi-Matic C. I bought this at a thrift store today to see if it worked. The film advance lever worked fine for a while and then got stuck. Put a new battery...

Have you rewound the film? If you rewind the file completely and pull out the rewind know, it will pop the back open . . . and can remove the film cassette. While the back is still open, complete the cycle on the winding crank. The winding crank should return to "Normal" arter you complete the winding cycle. When you close the back, everything should go back to normal.

I bought a printer Deskjet F2400 all-in-one series but there is no wire connect to the computer so where can i find it?

What you need is a "standard" USB-A-to-USB-B cable.
for a picture of both ends of the cable.

Look at any "Dollar Store", or "Value Village", or "Thrift Store" or small "mom-and-pop" computer-store. Don't pay more than $3.

Harman Kardon AVR 500 Only works in NON-Surff mode ?

This is a good indication that the surround processing section has a problem. This can be anything from a supply voltage being missing to a defective processing IC. Without testing inside the unit, it wil be difficult to determine. With surround procesing turned off, the entire section is bypassed. This is why standard stereo mode sounds OK. The static sound is digital noise and can be poor processing or a bad D/A converter IC.

Hope this helps,

Mode dial on my Kodak DX6490 camera is hard to turn!

dissmantle the back case (watch for 1 hidden screw under rubber covers), lift plate on back of lcd screen, remove screw on back of dial, clean where it sits on both sides (most probably from a liquid spill...tea, coffee...) , apply some lube with a cottonbud ore a bit of tisue and rebuild.
hope this helps
