If the trackpad is also not working, you may need a logic board.
Ask the apple shop to just change the keyboard, and see if that works. They aren't too expensive.

High probability that this is just a keyboard key failure. Attach an Apple keyboard (or a generic keyboard) to one of your USB ports. Use it for a while. If you don't see this behavior, then the problem is in your keyboard, which is easily replaceable by an Apple tech.

Do you mean the behind the keyboard backlight or something else?
As far as I'm aware only the macbook Pro models have KB backlighting so without a motherboard change you are probably out of luck

It sounds like a keyboard fault, try plugging in any USB keyboard, if that works the keyboards are fairly straught forward to swap (google "take apart guide" for your exact model, keyboards are usually on eBay

You're on the right track... turn it upside down with the battery out and leave it to dry for at least 5 days. You can also try buying a large container of silica crystals at a hobby shop and put the computer and the open container of silica in an oversized plastic bag... If the water wasn't water, there will most likely be residue... but all this is worth a try... other than that, it can be disassembled and dried out and any damaged parts replaced... good luck on this.
