Question about Buffalo Technology 250GB MINISTATION TURBO USB 2.0 5400 RPM PORTABLE HDD 250 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hello....I recently dropped my Buffalo 250gb external drive and when I plugged it in, my laptop can't detect it, and the led light keeps changing from yellow to orange while making weird R2D2 like noise..I want to know if it is still possible for me to get all my data back? I don't mind paying for data recovery as long as I can get all my files back.

It is always possible to recover the data as long as you have the budget for it. If you take it into a shop they most likely will try to take the drive out of the case and hook it up to a computer using an adapter to see if that will work. If this does not resolve it you will have to send it into a specialty recovery shop.

How to access my Buffalo HD-PNTU3 external hard drive?

dropping it while turned on is fatal as it usually damages the write heads and/or the platters.
if it hit the floor, changes are it's physically damaged the mechanism.
recovering data from a drive with this damage is not cheap as you will have to send it away to be rebuilt. It's impossible to rebuild it yourself.

Check the usb port function in the computer bios settings and be sure that it is set to yes. Connect properly your external drive. If it has two wire usb connections, use both to obtain the maximum power that will be need by your drive.

External Hard Drive Not Regonized

Hello,
I can help you with this. Follow these instructions--> Start-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management, under the Storage section select "Disk management". Locate the external harddrive, and then change the drive letter.

Select the external drive. Right click, and select "Change drive letters and paths"-->Highlight the driveletter to change-->Click the "Change" button-->From the drop-down list choose an unused drive letter, and hit Ok.
The external drive should be recognized and accessible at this point. Let me know if you have any other questions.
