Carpet attachment motor shut off and stops after a short time

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC23 Motorhead's brush bar is engineered to shut off for protection if something jams it. This could occur if it catches something like a rug fringe or a shoelace, or if threads or hair are wrapped around the brush bar. To resolve this, please follow the steps shown in our Support video below to clear any debris:

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you would like some further advice from our experts once you've given this a try, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Brush stopped spinning and is sparking

Hi there Amanda, it's Jack at Dyson.

Unfortunately it sounds like the shoelace jamming the brush bar may have caused damage to the cleaner head. It's probably best if you can give our freephone Helpline a call so we can take some further details. If your machine is within our 5-year guarantee period, our experts can confirm if we're able to replace the cleaner head for you.

You can reach us on 0800 298 0298. Calls are free from UK landlines, and we're available from 8am-8pm from Monday to Friday, and 8am-6pm on weekends.

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Not picking up dirt

Have you tried cleaning out under te plastic cover? Remove it as you would when you replace the belt I get stuff caught in there or just inside hard metal tube there is a small magnet that will catch things and sometimes block it up. Use hose to **** it all out and clean. I find this helpful when it doesn't want to pick up as well I know it is time to clean it up.

Beater bar stopped after sucking up shoe lace

Hi choward40,

Yah, vacuums don't particularly care for shoelaces! :>)

Did you get the shoelace taken out of the beater brush?
Did the shoelace go all the way into the machine?

Please reply back. Thanks,

Handie Andie

Rainbow Vacuum, about 5 yrs old (bought new, no issues prior) - my 6yr old tipped it on it's side while water was in basin. Now when I turn the power on, it makes a very loud sound in the motor and you can...

Although a wet/dry vacuum, it cannot tolerate water in the motor. Water will cause the motor to short out, which will cause the motor to act/sound like yours does now, if it continues working at all.
To prevent additional problems, the vacuum needs to be taken to an authorized Rexair dealer for cleaning and repair. Expect at the very least to pay for a new motor and installation.
Problems like this are why I don't care for any wet/dry vacuums, especially spendy ones.
Oh, you should definitely discontinue use, and don't attempt repairs on your own. Special tools are needed, and if bolts and screw are rusted, breakage may result.

I ran over a shoelace and now the brush won't rotate. I have the healthy home bagless

Shoelace is probably lodged in the roller somewhere...you'll need to take the cover off as if you were changing the belt and look at the roller to see where the lace is and remove it ...if you don't remove it n try to run the lace out then you risk burning up a belt

Very loud click/catching noise - Dyson DC07Allergy

Take the sole plate off the brush bar (with a coin or a screw driver)compartment and check for blockages near the brush bar and make sure the brush bar spins round freely.
Its sounds like the clutch is slipping (it does this to protect it self from burning out when something is stopping the brush bar from turning)
A quick test is when in upright position turn the brush bar knob to off
(usally in drive postion) then try the user position again - the brush bar should not be turning and they should be no noise

Loud 'drilling' noise from motor area when turned on.

Sounds like bad bushings/bearings in the motor -- need to replace them.

Power brush SEB234/236

Hi Clyde,
Before you start, unplug the vacuum from the wall socket.
First remove all the shoe laces from the beater brush. Then make sure the belt in installed correctly. If this doesn't correct the problem, open the unit and find any fuses that it may have and replace any that are blown. That sould correct your problem. It sure seems that vacuums get hungry for more than dirt at times. lol Good Luck
