It won't print. There's a print job in the cue that I cannot delete. I'm able to delete more recent ones, but not the first. Firmware is up to date. My fix before was to turn it off,...

Try this approach instead:

1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)

2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.

3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service)

Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Everytime I start my printer I get a message to realign while there is NO problem with the alignment.

Hi,

The printer alignment has to be completed as below,

  1. After printer prints the alignment sheet.
  2. Place the printed sheet on the scanner bed and press "start scan" or "start color copy".
  3. Wait untill the printer Power light stops blinking.
  4. Now turn off the printer and turn back on.
  5. Printer will not print alignment sheet.

How to stop red blinking "paper"? couldn't stop

There is probably a paper jam since you shut it off as it was printing. Turn off the printer. Remove the tray and look inside. Remove any sheets of paper you see. Open the back of the printer (the pass-thru door) and remove any paper you see. Turn on the printer. If that fails, check the blink status against the manual's troubleshooting guide to locate a different solution.

Lexmark z31 printer will not stop printing

Disconnect printer cable from PC. Power off printer and unplug power cord from outlet. Wait 15 seconds. Press the power button as if to turn on with unit still unplugged. Plug back into outlet and turn on printer.

Before reconnecting to PC, check the printer's queue status. Start, Control Panel, Printers. Select the printer by double clicking to open queue status. Select any remaining documents and choose cancel from document menu bar.

Paper keeps feeding through and won't stop

Two possibilities;
One you have a messed up print job trying to print and when you turn the printer on the job just starts over.
Two the clutch that stops the pick roller is bad and the roller just keeps turning.
Unplug the machine from the computer and turn it off unplug power for awhile turn it back on not connected to the computer. If condition remains it is the clutch.
If condition goes away delete print jobs and re connect printer.
Hope this helps

Doesn't work.

Turn Printer off (printer is still connected, however to PC)

Start...run... "services.msc"... <enter>

Find the "print spooler" service, highlight it and stop the print spooler service (little stop icon)

Navigate to C:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS
delete all files (*.SHD and *.SPL) in that directory.

return to services window, and re-start the print spooler.

Close the windows that you've opened.

Turn printer back on.

Wait one minute.

Print something to printer.

Printer not working properly

The DeskJet printers are notorious for this problem. When you turn the printer off and back on in the middle of a print job, it gets confused when it is back on and cannot interpret the print language when it resumes from the computer. Whenever this happens in the future, you need to delete the print job off your pc before turning the printer back on. If you have windows XP, click START, SETTINGS, PRINTERS&FAXES, then double-click on your printer icon. When the queue window comes up, right-click on the active print job, select DELETE, then reply YES to confirm. If you don't see the print job delete (it might take a minute or so), then you will have to stop/start your Windows print spooler. Go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL. Double-click the ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS icon. Double-click the SERVICES icon. Scroll down and locate PRINT SPOOLER. Right-click on it and select STOP. Wait about 10 seconds, then right-click on it again and select START. Close out of the SERVICES & CONTROL PANEL windows. Open your printer status window again and see if it is clear. Once it is clear, it will be safe to turn your printer back on. Hope this helps.
