Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a ge fridge freezer, went to get water from the dispencer and the funnel broke, water was coming out with out pressing the funnel. I put it to make ice and ice came out by its self, so i removed the filter and put it back to water and the water and ice had stopped. a few days later i put the filter back in and no water or ice came out. It maybe the switch was on all the time and has burned something out on the water side. I fitted a new funnel and the ice side works fine, but no water coming out. when i press the funnel I hear a click noise in the top of the fridge in the mother board but no water any idear. The switch in the door seems to be working, the ice fuction is working ice comes out. The noise i hear is not the door switch it comes from the mother board . I cant hear any motor drawing water. one more thing the light in in the dispencer not working could be nothing to do with it.

Hi The compessor is in the top, and the water valve is blue. to check the power with a meter do i check for volts and what should it be. I can't pull the unit out but when i put the filter in i can hear the rush of water. when i hold the funnel down and put my hand on the valve i can't feel enything should it vibrate like a gas pump

  • keith_breton Mar 24, 2011

I checked, there is water going to the valve. when i push the funnel there is no vibration or noise from the valve. to check the vave with a meter do i check for volts and what should it be. there is 2 tubes coming out and 1 going in. Its blue with one part red it has 2 mulit connectors so how woud i check with the meter

The funnel is 111.The easy connector how do's that come apart

  • keith_breton Mar 24, 2011

Sorry but 111 pushes down hits 113 if its in ice mode a soilnoid pushes 118 to let ice out. in water mode i guess 113 would send a message to the mother board and the mother board to the valve if this is correct please tell how to test power to the valve re multi plugs.

sorry did you get my last message

  • keith_breton Mar 25, 2011

Thanks very much. when i push lever there is power to the valve but no noise or vibration i will change the valve and let you know. I can't turn the water supply off so if i remove the filter will that shut off the water to the valve. Thanks again Keith

The switch is located the trim piece on the front of you door you can actually remove the trim piece on part number 113 on this diagram is the switch that you can test by removing the switch and doing a continuity test on the switch itself click here for your diagram http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http%3a%2f%2fc.searspartsdirect.com%2flis_png%2fPLDM%2fG1008011-00001.png your heariing a click noise maybe on the door switch due to the funnel being broken though you might have condesation also building up on your door when you press to get ice can you hear the motor acuating and like wise when you press for water what are you hearing these are two totally differnt mechanical working systems the water is actually drawn from the back of the machine the water valve is what is actuated when the switch is depressed whereas when you press for ice it activated an auger inside your ice bucket that turns it shuts the ice through the funnel part number 823 in this diagram http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http%3a%2f%2fc.searspartsdirect.com%2flis_png%2fPLDM%2fG1008011-00006.png diagnosing what the problem is and which piece is faulty requires you to test and visually inspect these areas to see which are not fucntioning properly it is also best at least once ever 6 months to remove the ice maker in your unit and run it under hot water to defrost the actual ice maker from any ice build up if you have any further questions message me back and please rememeber when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to help others in the future Thanks Rick

this next step requires two people pull the unit away from the wall remove the back panel located down the bottom of the machine where the compressor is have someone actuate the water switch and listen if the water valve is engageing if the water valve is not engageing take a multimeter and assure that the valve is getting power if it is not engageing repalce the water valve the valve is what brings the water to the door the switch tells the board to tell the water valve to start moving the water up the line so if you test that you do have power going to that vavle then the switch and the board are working properly and it would be the valve that is causeing your issue if you are not getting power to the valve then you would look at the board or the switch being the issue if you have any further questions message me back i await your reply Thanks Rick

the piece "funnel" that your refering to is that part number 118 on the diagram yes you would check for voltage and there should be 110 going to each side when the switch is actuated is the funnel that your refering to the lever on the door?look at the schematic that i have posted and which part number are you refering to as to funnel? if you can assure that the water valve is working when you depress the lever and that water is flowing to the door you can also go down the bottom of the door and disconnect the quick connect on the water line and run that line into a small bucket or cup and then press the lever to see if water is coming to the bottom of the door if your getting water to the bottom of the door but your not getting water out of the dispensor then it would be a line issue which is a real headache but message me back with which piece you are refering to as the funnel Thanks Rick and yes it is the blue water valve

here is a video on how to disconnect the quick connect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJYokz7fM... why would you be depressing the 111 this has nothing to do with how you get water to the dispensor if anything you would depress 118 111 is basicly a shute that the ice slides down you are already getting ice so press the front control arm lever which would be 118 if you can hear the click in the front switch all in all you have to be able to hear that water valve actuating when the front lever is pressed for water if not replace the water valve Thanks Rick

push 113 and see if the valve is humming or if you disconnected the quick connect down the bottom then when you push 113 it should put water into the cup that you have the disconnected line going into if you push 113 and you get no water then you have a bad water valve as you can also do a continuity test on 113 to assure that it is working properly on a ratio 85 percent of the time this is due to either the valve or the switch it is very very rare that the actual board shorts out on these if this were a ge artica these are more well known for board issues on the door Thanks I will await to see if you have any further questions Thanks Rick

no whenever you hook up a seperate water line you should always have a shut off on that line you can shut off the water going to that main line by turning off the main water supply coming into your house after you do this I would suggest putting a shut off on that line on the just in case you ever happen to have a problem in which the line itself breaks so it doesnt flood your house with water running consistenetly when I usually hook up a seperate shut off usually I will install a shut off on the valve near the tie in this way if there is ever a problem it is easily accesible to turn off after you change the valve out message me back with how you made out remember to purge your line of air as well and please also remember to rank this solution when our chat has fully concluded it allows me to help others in similar situations Thanks Rick

p.s i will be flying from tuesday-thursday of next week across the country if this chat is not ranked and I am unable to post within 4 hours of your post unfortunately it may go to another tech or you can accept solution and pick how helpful this opinon was even after you rank we are still able to continue our conversation it basicly locks the chat between us. Thanks Rick

I have a LG 26911 TT it does not dispence water but there is water leaking out of the bottom of the freezer door handle

the water comes from the house water through a filter then to the freezer where it is used to make ice and then chilled water goes on to the water dispenser. if you are making ice ok then the little tube that goes to the dispenser is broke or the valve that opens to allow water to fill your glass is broken or plugged up. You will need to disassemble the unit from inside the door... I sudjest taking a lot of pictures as you do the disassembly to aid you in putting it all back together.oh.. perhaps deforsting the fridge first might fix theproblem... if your lucky.

Broken ice maker/ water

If your ice maker has parts missing and you can not get the water to fill you don't have too many options I am sorry to say because yours is electronic.(No Replacement Parts) Part number Click Here=>WR30X10093 Point and Click Appliance Repair Sell Genuine OEM replacement parts. Ebay sells parts for less but the are counterfeits. And I'm a little with the angry with them when they claim to have the real thing and you can not even buy wholesale from GE at those prices. I would like someone to test the voltage to the water control valve when someone presses dispense water. If you get 120 volts to the side of the valve that dispenses water and nothing comes out I believe your ice maker and dual water control valve are defective. Part number for your water control valve is Click here=> WR57X10050
I'm very good with your model and its problems so if you need help please let me know. If need you may contact me here on Fixya or my Forum=> Appliance 911 My contact information is located above the Fixya Ad on my blog here=> Sea Breeze Appliance Parts and Technical Services, Thanks, Sea Breeze

if your ice maker is making ice and it is your ice dispencer that is not working along with your water dispencer and when you press the dispencer button the light dims on the door. I would replace the main board. I experienced the same problem and the board fixed it This board is shared by many models and brands of fridges and the transformer goes bad from power surges this board powers the solenoid valves that open for your water

Kelvinator fridge

The freezer defrosts every day. the puddle is from that. It is supposed to go into a pan at the bottom and evaporate. You need to look at the pan and determine if it has a hole or the drain hose is leaking somewhere.

Door dispenser stopped dispensing, starting making a constant clicking and now the entire fride isn't working

We had the same problem. Our frigerator is 1.5 year old. Everytime we try to dispence water or ice the dispencer clicks and the whole thing turns of. We had a GE repairman come by: the electronic board needs to be replaced: total cost $350. (cost of the board only: $150. We are considering disconnecting the dispencer by unplugging the board (according to the repain man the ice maker wil still work)or buy a new refrigurator (for sure NO GE!!!!!!)

Water Dispencer not working.

check your freezer for ice. do you have alot of ice in your ice maker tray? if so your water line could be frozen. try to self defrost the freezer for about 3hrs to thaw out the water line. check your water valve also. when you call for water do you hear a humming or buzzing noise? on ge fridges ive worked on if you hear a humming noise when calling for water, most likely your water valve is ok. trace the water. meaning where does the water start? at the wall then through a hose then to your valve which is behind fridge on bottom. trace the hoses and you will find the prob
