Question about Lexmark C544dn Laser Printer

Receiving dark smudges on all copies......how do you take the drum or roller out to clean it? We did not receive a manual with our printer.....so any assistance would be apprecaited.

You can clean the drum, this will create more problems with print quality.

also try the steps below.

  1. Verify if media is supported and proper paper settings are set.
  2. Try to print with the paper type setting change to heavy on the printer. (Menu > Paper Menu > Size-Type > Tray1 > Type > Heavy Paper > Check button)
  3. If persist, go to Diagnosis Menu and change the fuser temp. setting to high on printer. (Diagnostics Menu > EP Setup > Fuser Temp > High > Check button)

Identical smudges 3 inch spacing


3 inches is approximately 70 or so mm so i would say you have a bad drum on your toner

When i first start my copies on my brother dcp 1000 they are clear by the time i get to copy 20 their are dark ink smudges on the paper. It seems when the copier starts heating up they smudges happen. I...


replace the drum,
( if you have used correct toner for refill because some time it happens if two different type of toner mixed up hence assuming that you have select gud toner).

Black lines on copies and on drum


There are a few things you can do to troubleshoot this problem.
  1. Be sure you are using new, clean paper
  2. Clean the copier's paper rollers, the marks may result from a dirty roller mechanism.
  3. Clean the copier bed's glass plate, smudges manifest themselves in the final copies.
  4. Clear any excess toner that has spilled in the toner cartridge chamber. Remove the cartridge, set it aside, then clean the compartment.
  5. Check for low toner levels. Low toner levels can actually contribute to unsightly lines and blotches on a photocopy
If all else fails, try turning down the darkness of the copies in the settings, this can occasionally lead to lines and marks.

My old Canon NP1215 Copier: -First copy is


most probably a change of the drum and cleaning blade is needed ,check also the fixing/fuser roller

Gestetner 2722z copier, new drum, new transfer belt, smudges yet


The image is not transferring properly..........

remove and clean all corona wires (thin wires that create the latent image) use a q tip and dip in rubbing alcoholhot

Also make sure the fuser rollers are hot(insert or trick safety switches to determine if the fuser lamps are lighting usually upper and lower

Also check the imaging lamp to be sure it does not have any dark burn marks on it and clean the mirrors and the glass under the coy area

Black smudges on copies


Hi, try to pull out complete process unit(cartridge) with toner box .You have cleaner(blue or green color) move this cleaner from right to left side 4 or 5 times.Note that cleaner MUST be in home position-right side when you finish.Check print.
If problem still persists, you must do following:take away small grey plastic cap on left side of cartridge,then push complete charge corona(part with cleaner on top of it) to left side just enough to lift right side of corona from cartridge.Pull out that corona and you can see drum and developer roller. Turn the gear on drum,and look for smudges on black developer roller.Try to clean smudges with brush or with dry cloth.Toner will again attract to that area,but regular.

"Clean drum" doesn't get rid of smears.


Need to change cartridge, the residue is not being cleaned off by the Drum Blade.
