Question about Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook

1 Answer

Backlight on display went dim

I have had my Acer Aspire 5315 for 2 months and the backlight seems to have gone out on the display. You can barely see anything on the screen. I can take a flashlight to it and see enough to adjust brightness, cpntrast, etc., but this does not help. Still too dark to see...Any ideas?

Acer aspire one screen barely displayed

There are two causes, the inverter board, " just under the LCD screen" more likely, or the backlight behind the display, "less likely"

Backlight wont stay on

The inverter board which provides the backlight power isn't working properly. This is a pretty common problem with LCD screens. The inverter is in the display, mounted under the display panel. It's a fairly simple job to replace the inverter. You have to remove the screws holding the front of the display to the back and separate the pieces. The inverter is held in place by a couple of screws and has a couple of cables connecting it to the main board and display panel. Unplug those, remove the inverter, mount the replacement and plug the cables back in. Then reassemble the display. A search on Google for "acer 5315 inverter" turned up several sources for the replacement part. Here is one. I don't know anything about this seller; I just picked it as an example.

Acer screen looks dark?

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Screen goes blank while typing

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.

My son had this problem with his Acer Aspire making a popping sound and the screen going blank, What do we do to solve this problem? Acer Aspire 5315-2077 Thank you for any assistant.

Does the popping sound seem to come from the bottom of the screen, near the middle, or just above the keyboard, in the middle? If so, the inverter board (which takes battery voltage and bumps it up to voltage high enough to run the display backlight) could be shorting out. If you connect an external monitor, and THAT keeps working, then my suggestion might be correct. The inverter board is not expensive, but the labor to replace it is.

My acer aspire 9300 screen is very dim and I cant seem to get it brighter . I can barely see the icons?

Try resetting the laptop to default settings in the BIOS. If that don't work, sounds like there's a problem with the backlight in the LCD Display.
Most laptops come with Ambient Light Sensors, that can adjust the display based on the lighting in the room.

Display

A really dim display like you're describing is most likely a backlight problem.  If your inverter went bad you wouldn't have any display at all.  you need to get your backlight changed.
