    Dear Steve,

thank you for your help, your advice re dragging worked but I had hoped to transfer my desktop complete with taskbar to the new monitor. Also, I thought that I should be able to close the lid of my laptop instead of having two screens on my desk. Any advice on this?

    Jean.

You have the graphics driver set to Extended Desktop.
If you move the cursor to the right, can you see it on the new monitor?
If so you can drag any application window over to the new monitor.
If you don't like this then right-click on the desktop wallpaper and choose Properties, then find an Advanced tab and an Extended Desktop checkbox and uncheck it.

Disable the extended desktop and it will do what you want.

    Control Panel - Display - Properties - Advanced - ????

When I turn on computer mouse and keyboard and screen dont come on

Hi,

The first problem that you are facing is of Display that you are saying "Screen do not come on". What I recommend you to check your display wire that connects your Monitor to the Display Card located in your System. You have to see if it is connected properly or not.

Secondly, you display may not come if there may be a problem with your monitor, there is a possibility that your monitor is not functioning properly, and your Keyboard and Mouse are working. To check if there is any problem with your monitor, please use your PC with another monitor to see if there is a display screen appeared. If it appears, then there is a problem with your monitor and if not then still there is a possibility that your display card is not functioning properly.

Please change your display card with another one to see if works.

I hope the above methods will resolve your problem. If not, you can still contact me for further issues.

Kind Regards,

Khawar Khalid

hello, try to unplug the cables on your desktop, then plug it again, sometimes its loose, or sometimes the power supply on your computer is not functioning properly.

The fn key has been activated by default

Hello,
WE have seen this a few times in our repair shop, however a reboot of the computer always seemed to fix it. I take it that is not the case for you?

No power on laptop screen

Hello,
The first thing to try is to hook up an external monitor to the laptop.
If the external monitor works then it is either the LCD screen or the backlight for the LCD. If not then it is probably the video card inside the laptop.
Also check the "function" (Fn) key combinations on the keyboard, you might have shut the screen off with the Fn keys accidentally.
Hope this helps.

Can't get external monitor to work properly

  1. Right-click on your desktop (anywhere there is not an icon).
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. You should see two monitors with a "1" & a "2."
  5. Right-click on "2" and click enable
  6. Your external monitor should come to life.
  7. You may want to make some adjustments with the resolution, and this option is on the same screen.

Laptop comes on but monitor remains black

Hello,

IT could be one of two things. First make sure that you have the laptop set to display on the LCD. Most laptops will have a Function key labeled by Fn then you will need to look at the function keys at the top F1-F12 and find the one that either says CRT/LCD or has a picture of a screen or monitor. Then, after you have found that key, you will need to press and hold the Fn key and tap the appropriate function key, this will alternate between the LCD (laptop) and CRT (monitor). If you have trouble finding the correct key combination for switching displays should be listed in the manual.

If that doesn't correct it, then I would try locating a desktop CRT and connecting it to the monitor connection on the rear of the laptop and again pressing the keys to switch between CRT/LCD. If it shows on the CRT then I would say that the LCD on the laptop is bad.

Thanks

Screen doesn't work properly. Can just see windows loading if hold screen to light. Computer Compaq Presario V2157Ap or V2000 both nos on back of comp

1st test,- connect an outside [test] monitor to the back .There is a VGA plug somewhere back there. If the screen come in good, the problem could be your Laptop monitor screen.
If the connected test monitor acts the same, visually, the problem is in your Laptop.
2nd.test- goto BIOS setup and press F=function that set your laptop to DEFAULT, reboot and see.....
3RD. test- [POWER OFF!!] switch ram chips around from one socket to the other ,, reboot or power on
4th:replace memory chips with KNOWN good ones
If u still have problems, goto technician for help

No sound in sm2232bw monitor

CURSE YOU SAMSUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm done now. Some monitors require a separate power supply for their speakers. I don't know if yours would have one, so you'll have to check. Also, are you sure that you have it connected properly? It you do, are you sure that the monitor has built-in speakers? Once you have checked these things, get back to me.
