Hi

Unbalanced load is caused more by an under loaded machine than an overloaded machine. If the machine keeps going to unbalanced load then there must be some factors behind it:-

An unregulated motor...The module that controls the motor needs adjusting or replacing or the motor needs calibrating, because the speed is finely regulated to balance the wash load when the machine goes into spin. After the machine has tumbled it goes into distribution mode, and this is where most of the problems occur. The drum has to build its speed from tumble (35-55 rpm) to distribution speed (83 rpm). If this does not happen gradually, the clothes will gather at one side of the drum and create an out of balance load. Hotpoint and Service (older carbon brush) motors can be adjusted by turning the brass calibrating ring on the tacho assembly attached to the back of the motor. Otherwise you need to take the control board to be repaired, re-calibrated or replaced.

Faulty suspension...There are two common types of suspension, a spring and friction plate type and a shock absorber type. The first one suffers from the friction plates becoming shiny and not gripping properly. This can be cured by either replacing the friction pads, or simply sanding down the surfaces of the pads to roughen them. The shock absorber type can suffer from broken legs, or loss of oil in the dampers. Either case would cause the tub of the washer to be loose and free to move around inside the cabinet.

Loose components...Any component from the motor to the concrete block at the top or bottom of the machine can become loose and cause banging. This requires visual inspection and repair.

Drum Bearings or mountings...Bearing faults are usually indicated by a rumbling sound which gets louder with time. Drum mountings are signified by a loose drum relative to the outer tub.

Motor bearings...Motor bearing faults are quite rare, but can be identified by removing the belt and manually turning the motor. Faulty bearings will make the motor harder to turn or noisy when it is turned. Usually this is caused by over tightening the belt, and the cure depends on which make of machine. Some machines have replaceable bearings, some need the armature replacing, and a few need to have the motor replaced as a whole unit.

Why does it always become unbalanced in spin cycle?

how confident are you to get inside it? Check the balance springs and shock absorbers.

Normally it is two simple things.

First the machine must be level front to back and left to right. Also all 4 feet must be in equal contact with the floor.

Make sure you load the washer evenly with clothes. Mix large and small items so when the spin starts the clothes even out. Never wash just one large item that is very absorbent, like one bathrobe or one blanket..

UL bravo error code

Unbalanced load? Don't over stuff the washer. The load sensing moves the drum back and forth at the start. If it can't balance the load it will err.

My washer's digital time screen changes from the time remaining to a symbol that looks like "UL".

This error code indicates that an unbalanced load is detected.

Click the following to learn more about unbalanced loads in the BravosTM washers. The example is for an impeller washer but is applicable to washers with agitators.

Is the wash load balanced?

If the load is unbalanced, the washer will display this code while attempting to balance the load at the end of the wash cycle and before the final spin. If the code remains and the wash cycle dial is flashing after the recovery routine has stopped, open lid and redistribute the load. Close lid and press Start/Pause.

Is the washer level? Does the washer rock when pushed against the corners?

If the washer is not level, the washer may be more sensitive to unbalanced loads. The washer must be level from side to side and from front to back. The front and rear feet must be in firm contact with the floor. Make sure the locknuts are tightened. See the Installation Instructions for details.

To remove the error display, press Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel once.

I have a maytag washer i bought in 97. It became unbalanced well my husband fixed it and everytime it goes on the spin cycle it gets unbalanced again and makes a very loud noise

If the washer is truly balances (check with a level to be sure) you might just have an unbalanced load. When filling your machine with laundry, think of the tank as a big circle divided into four pie slices. Make sure you fill each of the four slices evenly. This should help,

My PAVT920AWW won't spin hard enough to get all the water out

I have had teh same problem. I calledin the Maytag service and they did replace something out of goodwill but the technician told me that the load balance sensor is sensitive. If your load is unbalanced then the machine will spin slowly so it does not walk across the floor. With larger loads the wieght will make the machine bang against the sides and walk.

The solution is quite simple. Make sure the load is balanced. The agitator has a way of unbalancing a load from time to time so you need to do this manually. It is a very rare occurance and it is best to make sure your load goes into the machine balanced first.
