Hello,

If you are looking for network cables (cat 5e and cat 6) you can try this site:

Amazon.com also has good network cables for low cost.

I hope this helps

Rewiring a house putting in a net work for the future . what cable cat5e ,cat5e screened , cat6 , cat6 screened . would cat5e screened be better than cat6 unscreened ? cables away from mains ,

I'm guessing when you say screened and unscreened you mean shielded or unshielded. Shielded wire is used when there is a higher possibility of electrical or RF interference. In a typical household those type of interferences are uncommon. As far as the Cat.5e or Cat. 6 decision, Cat 5e is tested to 150 Mhz. compared to a 250 Mhz. rating on Cat. 6 therefore with future speeds in mind I'd go with the Category 6.

STP cables - with - Linksys Ethernet 5-Port Workgroup Hub

Most liklely you shouldn't do this unelss you are willing to do the work to properly ground the cables on each end. I'm pretty sure your hub iuses a DC power brick so it won't handle it for youm you'll have to build a breakout box of some sort to do this. Remember that if the cable isn't grounded properly on each end it will actually make things worse.

Running at 10M with Cat 6 cable it is highly unlikely that you will have issues with electrical interferecne even with the the undesirable routing of the cables in your house.

Max cable lenght for cat 6e cable

The cable standard provides performance of up to 250 MHz and is suitable for 10BASE-T / 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T / 1000BASE-TX (Gigabit Ethernet). It is expected to suit the 10GBASE-T (10Gigabit Ethernet) standard, although with limitations on length if unshielded Cat 6 cable is used. Category 6 cable can be identified by the printing on the side of the cable sheath.

Cat5e is suitable for 10/100/1000baseT ethernet for 100 meters, when properly installed.
Cat 6 is also good for 10 gig ethernet for 37 meters, but that is pretty short, unless just in a server room.
There is no Cat 6e, but Cat 6A will be good for 10/100/1000/10GbaseT ethernet for 100 meters.
Unshielded Twisted Pair has no ground shield around the wires. It is the standard in the US, where most network standards were defined. There are extensions to the standards to allow for the more common in Europe, Shielded Twisted Pair.
Some Cat-6 cables are too large and may be difficult to attach to 8P8C connectors without a special modular piece and are technically not standard compliant. If components of the various cable standards are intermixed, the performance of the signal path will be limited to that of the lowest category. The maximum allowed length of a Cat-6 cable is 100 meters (330 ft) when used for 10/100/1000baseT and 37 meters (120 ft) when used for 10GbaseT. This applies for UTP cables only. Shielded Cat 6 and Cat 7 cables are capable of 100m.....sodeep

What is the difference in CAT 5 and CAT 6 cable

CAT-5 is rated to 100M with 24 gauge wire
CAT-6 and CAT6e is rated to 550M with 23 gauge wire

But as a note .. Cat 6 really has not been been approved and has no definitive specs yet .. Use Cat5e

Difrence of lan wan

The Lan limit on unshielded twisted pair cable (UTP) is 300 ft for a local area network (lan). The cable uses the 802.3 Of course if fiber is used in a LAN then this # can be extended substantially.

Now the main difference between the LAN and Wide Area Network (WAN) is that LANs typically have 1 brodacast domain and froward packets at data link (layer 2 of the OSI) level using MAC addresses.

The WAN operates at the network level (layer 3 of the OSI). WANs are and reads IP addresses. Routers can extend far distances (as you said 40-60km) and band with depends on distance. the further away, the more attenuation on the line.

I hope this helps.
