Try using the software for the webcam your laptop came with. It is usually optimized for the built-in webcam.
Although if the bad picture you are getting is indeed the cause of a bad camera and not just missing drivers/software, then you should consider upgrading to an aftermarket webcam. If quality is what you are after then go for a nice 5MP one. But if price is your concern then consider a 3MP camera.
