This is because your laptop can't distinguish your hard drive. There are so many reasons why your laptop can't recognizing the hard drive it could be caused by wrong cable installations, jumper settings or even boot settings as these are the normal reasons that can cause your laptop not recognizing hard drive.

The "no boot device" error is caused by the system not recognizing your hard drive. The drive has failed in some way and the laptop can no longer read from it. You will need to replace the hard drive before you can reload your laptop.

Need recovery disk for hp mini 2140

Hi

you could try this if it helps

There are two ways to access Roxio BackOn Track to recovery the computer, either through the boot menu, or through the Windows Start menu.
You can use the boot menu to restore your computer to a previous working state or to return the computer to the state it was in before the last time it was restored.
    1. Press the power button to turn on the HP Mini.
    2. Press and hold down the f6 key to open the Windows Boot Manager, use the down arrow key to select Roxio BackOnTrack , and then press the enter key to open Roxio BackOn Track.
If you can access Windows, in addition to restoring your computer to a previous working state, you use other options, such as Disaster Recovery.
    1. Click Start , All Programs , Roxio , BackOnTrack , and then BackOnTrack Home to open Roxio BackOn Track

    Hope this helps you

I need to know how to reset it

How to reset a laptop charger? A laptop charger can't be reset, it's just a piece of wire that provides power to the laptop. Just unplug it and it's reset.

If you want to know how to reset the laptop itself, click on Start, goto the > next to Shut Down and click Restart.
If you're looking to reformat it, start up the computer and enter the BIOS. There should be an option which says "Press F1 / F2 / DEL (Etc.) to Enter Setup". Inside the Setup (be very careful what you do in here), you want to set your boot priority to boot from the CD ROM. This is usually under standard options and should say something like 1st Boot Device, 2nd Boot Device, etc.

Save and exit the setup, then pop in your Windows (or System Recovery) disc. When it says "Press any key to boot from the CD", press a key on your keyboard and follow the instructions on-screen to reformation.

Computer wont reboot

The issue is due to presents of earlier operating system files which are avoiding you to reinstall the os.
At this point I recommend you to clean the hard disk and then try for fresh installation. However, I am providing you the steps below:
Perform the steps provided in the below web site and then perform the Reinstall process

http://killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

NOTE: The URL above will take you to a non HP Web site. HP does
not control and is not responsible for information outside
of the HP Web site.

After performing the complete format of Hard Drive, Reinstall the Windows XP.

To reinstall the operating system, follow the steps below:

1. Ensure that the CD-ROM is connected to the notebook.
2. Turn on the notebook.
3. Immediately insert the operating system CD into the CD drive.
4. Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to turn off the notebook.
5. Press the Power button again to start the notebook.
6. Press Esc key to boot from the CD when HP logo appears. Choose the first boot device as CD ROM and then click enter. The Welcome to Setup screen is displayed.
7. Press ENTER to continue. A Licensing Agreement screen is displayed.
8. Press F8 to accept the agreement and continue. The Setup window is displayed.
9. Press ESC to continue installing a fresh copy of the operating system without repairing.
10. Press ENTER to setup the operating system.
11. Press C to continue using this partition.
12. Select "Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)", and then press ENTER. A caution message stating that formatting this drive will delete all current files, is displayed.
13. Press F to format the drive. The reinstallation process begins and may take several minutes to complete. Your Notebook will restart into Windows after the process is complete.

NOTE: When prompted for the product key, refer to the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity located on the bottom of your
notebook.

I hope this information helps you. Please reply if I can help you further.
