Question about Dryers

1 Answer

When i start the dryer the drum will not turn! However once the dryer is started, if I give the drum a push, it will turn and operate with no problem, the problem comes that once the cycle changes it needs to start turning again, and will not without another push!!!.

What is the problem with my dryer?

The motor starting circuit is failing. Confirm this by giving the drum a push start when it hums. Most likely, the centrifugal switch on the motor is sticking (due to lint buildup) or broken. It has a mechanical component that operates an electrical switch. Check the mechanical operation, then check the switch. Also, check that the motor electrical connector is seated completely.

My ge dvl223ebww electric dryer won't start, but does hum when the start switch is turned.what are the causes?

Do an inspect. themobilian_2149.jpg
The top will come on off. Check the drum glides for wear
themobilian_2150.jpg
Once them glides wear out yall will be pinching the drum and causing motor stall.
With the top off you can sometimes push start and give it a little help to get it going and then listen out for signs of wear to the glides and bearing in the rear.

Dryer makes loud humming noise but drum doesn't turn when I push start.

Check to see if the drum will turn by hand. If so, leave the door open but push the light switch button down and start the unit. Once you hear the humming sound, manually turn the drum with your hand to start. If the drum turns normally, you have a bad motor and needs to be replaced. If the drum does not turn, something is jamming the motor and needs to be disassembled and inspected.
Good luck

Whirlpool dryer WED5530SQ0, heats but does not run

So,. basically your drum doesnt turn. SO your getting heat still even though the drum isnt turning. Is this right? Sounds strange??? Do you hear any humming noise when you push the start button? I need to know a little more about the problem because im kinda confused as how you decribed the problem. Iv never seen a dryer heat but the drum not spinning. especially your model dryer. Its electric heat right? because if the drum doesnt spin, maybe your motor is bad. and if your motor is bad, then your heating element wont heat up because the centrifical switch in the motor is not switching to complete the circuit to the heating element. So this is why im confused when you said" Dryer heats when knob turned but when "push button" pressed, drum doesnt run." Because your belt wraps around the motor pully and the motor is what makes the drum turn. Like i said, i never seen this model dryer heat with out the motor operating. So if you can give me some more info, ill do my best to help you out....Thanks!!!!

Dryer won't start once button pushed.

most of the time this is caused by the centrifical switch you can take the dryer apart and clean the motor some times this will fix if not replace the motor try setting the timer to 60 min open the door hold down the door button and give the drum a good spin clockwise but watch your hand so the drum dont rap your nuckles
