SOURCE: Windows startup error
If it is Windows Vista and it happened after a Windows Update, you might have the problem as described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB946084. No matter what you do (any F8 option such as Safe Mode or Command Prompt, or trying to boot from a Vista CD) you end up at the Blue Screen of Death.
Something is corrupted on the hard drive (not a hardware error) and now Vista has a fit if it sees the drive, even as a secondary or external drive (it goes to the BSOD with STOP: 0x0000C1F5).
The only solution so far is to erase the Vista partition and re-install Vista. You can take the drive and connect it to another computer running XP (using an external drive enclosure for example) to get the data off of it. Then do a format on the partition. Now reinstall the drive and you can load Vista. If you have no Vista disk but there was a Recovery Partition, this will now work.

SOURCE: ScanJet 5300c didn't work
Most likely the destination folder for the scanning is a shared folder with limited rights. As the administrator, reset the permissions for that folder or redirect the software to a common folder with read/write/creation etc... access.
Also, make sure you are using the HP provided drivers and not those from Microsoft.

This seems to be serious problem. Please share the exact error message. If there are any external devices connected to the system please remove and then try to boot the system again.
Also post the brand and model of your laptop so that we can be more specific in terms of the steps.
