If the disk works fine, then it's not a problem, the playstation only needs to reed it when its spinning. Mine does this occasionally.

Discs not spinning

If the disc is not spinning in your PS3 than that means the disc drive is broken. Your best bet would be to contact sony if your PS3 is still under warranty so they could fix it, or just buy your games digitally and play them without the disc.

Ps3 disc spin

PS3 blu-ray drives are famous for this fault. sony know about it just like the YLOD fault but claim not responcabillity. which just sums sony up as a whole really.the disc wont spin as the motor that rotates the disc has shorted out (mainly due to poor parts i.e not brand new) as sony SHOULD be using.
sometimes the solder under the motor heats up so much it just melts and in turn also melts the contacts, thus stops the disc from spinning.
if your good at soldering and are patient, you could have ago at resoldering it again. then send sony the bill!! or do the easy way, open the ps3, remove the blu ray drive, take off the logic board (the main chip board at the bottom of the drive) and buy another drive from ebay. tip for you though, if you have a 60gb ps3, get a blu ray drive from a 60gb machine, if you have a 40 or 80gb get a drive from the same model, etc etc, you need the logic board as they are paired to the motherboard in the ps3, another cheap way sony tried to stop people fixing them and trying to force people to pay them for repairs. LMAO! anyway, when you get the other drive, just plug all cables in to your logic board and disgard the one the drive came with (the new drive i mean) and pop the drive back in once you get the bottom screwed back on, close the top, and that should be you all set again. hope this helps

Ps3 not spinning disc, replaced spindle motor, did not fix. Please help

Hi there, this is because the actual laser needs replacing, not the disc spinner motor. With the PS3 the laser reads the disc data type, whether it be a DVD, game , audio cd or blu ray movie. It then spins the disc up to the required read speed. When the laser is faulty is cannot read the disc type so will not spin at all.

Hope this helps

Ps3 wont read any discs

Hi

This is a common problem on the PS3 unfortunately. The problem is with the laser lens on the disc drive. For a full breakdown of the possible solutions please see this FixYa Tip.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Playstaion 3 games wont load how can it be fixed. the clock (loading icon) stops. no errors appear no disk shows up.

listen for the disc to start spinning

if the disc spinns then its prolly just a dirty laser lens and if it doesnt spin could be a bad laser i doubt its the blu ray logic boad cause the ones i have seen that were bad the disk reading icon never stops, this has also happened on broken lenses where it never stops. ussually if it stops its bad motor or dirty lense.

Whenever i load a blu ray disc into my ps3 it loads for a while and then just stops reading the disc altogether. i get this impression from hearing the disc spinning but after some jerks it just stops....

The first thing you need to do is clean the lens off.You won't void the warranty if you go and buy a dvd cleaner. All you do is put it in the ps3 and let it run.

Check your cables. Try swapping lasers with a friend. Those are the first things I would try.

Ps3 wount read games

Hello. When you put in a disc, listen for the disc to start spinning. If you do not hear that then the laser and/or the spindle have blown out. You will have to get your Blu-Ray player serviced by a pro or Sony. Sony may fix it for free. They know that the drives are failing. So call them first.
I hope this helps! Good luck to you.
