Maybe the thermostat is bad. Try running a jumper wire between the 2 wires of the thermostat to see if the heater turns on. If it does not make sure you are getting voltage to the thermostat

I have a Masport free-standing Vienna gas heater. Am able to light the pilot, but can't turn on heater. It is linked to an external thermostat. Would this stop the heater being turned on. C

If your external thermostat is set lower than the temperature in your house the heater will not come on. Make sure your thermostat is set higher than the room temperature and the heater should work. You can do this as an experiment just to try the heater for starting up. Then set it to the temperature you want for comfort. Do not disconnect the thermostat unless it is broken. Your thermostat maintanes the comfortable heat in your house.

How can I turn off my thermostat and turn the heater on.

Help me understand what the Thermostat is on?
and why you need to turn the thermostat OFF and the heater on?-- What heater?
Tell us more-- what type of heater, what type of 'fuel' (or electric heater?)

Maybe I can help, if I understand more of what you are working with-

Rheem 83xr52-2 50 gal residential water heater. Water temp was low. I cut power at electric panel, removed upper panel on water heater, turned up thermostat, replaced panel and switched power back on at...

You can open the top up again. I would not turn the temp higher than 130 degrees, maximum. However, there should be above the thermostat a red button. This is where the power wires connect to the thermostats and heating elements. Sometimes this button needs to be reset, press it and discern if you hear a click sound. This means that the high temperature safety switch has tripped open and you had to manually "reset" it. There are two thermostats by the way. The water heater usually works this way. There are two thermostats and two heaters. The upper tank heater turns on first and it heats the top half of the tank. Then when the thermostat above is satisfied it then allows the bottom heater to come on and heat the bottom half of the tank. You might want to set the bottom heater thermostat as well. This is made this way because it is actually faster and more efficient to heat the top half first and the bottom half secondly. Try this first with the reset button. We could check voltages, but that requires a level of knowledge and safety that I am not sure that you are comfortable with. Pictures of the upper and lower thermostats and connections will help if the "reset" does not do the trick. By the way, not meaning or implying anything, but did you move the thermostat in the right direction? Sometimes the dials can be confusing.

We put in a new baseboard heater thermostat a couple of years ago in our 20 yr. old apartment. When we turned it on yesterday, it shorted and we no longer have any heat coming from the baseboard. Do we...

I have base board heaters in each room and each with a thermostat and hooked to a controller. The controllers activate the heat in the base board heaters. I believe this is how it works. When you activate the thermostat, it sends a message to the controller that sends a message to the base board for heat.
The controllers are Singers. Prbkem 2:. When I turn down the thermostat (to off), I still get heat in the base board heaters. WHY.
I was going to get rid off the controllers and thermostats and buy new base board heaters at Home Depot. The thermostats are on the base board heaters. Will this work.

I have to press the reset button every day, what is wrong, thank you!!!

Thermostat is tripping out due to thermostat or element may be going bad. Also take a look at the element's wire's connected to them and make sure there are no burn places. Because the thermostat will trip out for safety of the heater.
The thermostat's and elements are not exspensive to replace. Please inspect them very closely and be safe.

If you replace the thermostat please turn power off and changing the elements turn water off.
If elements need changing fill heater and get all air out of lines before turning the heater's power on.

If the unit has a wall thermostat, remove one of the wires from the thermostat. If the unit stops it indicates a bad thermostat. If it continues to heat, remove one of the wires coming from the thermostat going to the gas valve inside the heater. If it continues to heat you have a bad gas valve. If the heater shuts off, you have a bad thermostat wire (short).

HEATER DOES NOT TURN ON BUT AC WORKS.

- If no voltage output at the thermostat for the supply of heater/reversing valve, then replacement of thermostat is needed (but check the thermostat setting).
- If the voltage output at the thermostat for the supply of heater/reversing valve is present, then then check for heater/reversing valve fuse or overheat protection, and check for defective heater/reversing valve
