Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

It could be a lot of things. Did you eliminate the things that don't require surgery?

I have a similar problem. It "pops" then locks up. I unplug and it works for awhile. Happens in DVD and Aux In.

Well, I unplugged everything...then plugged in HDMI....it looked fine. Slowly I started adding the audio cables. Then the RCA audio from the TV. The whole movie played fine!
Hopefully you were right!

You most likely have a bad Optical Pickup(laser) Try playing a CD, and see if that works. If it does, your pickup is bad. If you'd like to inquire about repairing your RCA, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. You may contact me there.Thank you.

new cables might help, if you wiggle them and it clears up its the cables or connection terminal on the unit or tV, if the unit call 1800-252 6123, they will give you a return number and address to sedn the main player to no speakers and charge 45.00 TOPS! they will fix it or repalce it for you and ship it back with a 1 year warranty. very cheap and theyre friendly

I have had the same thing happen. Unplug the unit (AC) and wait about 30 seconds. Plug it back in and it should be fine. I assume you tried both the remote and the front panel controls.

I bought the RCA RTD325W DVD home theater system. The speakers work with the dvd/radio tuner but cannot get them to work with tv. Also have Satellite tv, do I need to connect to something on that? Or is...

Your TV must have a set of Audio Out connections. Connect them to the Aux In on the back of the RTD325W. Then toggle the Line-In/Aux button on the remote until display reads Aux In. System should work.
