SOURCE: THE OVEN WILL NOT HEAT

How old is the unit? Sometimes the igniter can glow but if it isn't drawing the right amount of power to open the gas valve then that is the safety that is built into the oven... So unless the power requirement is meant gas valve will not light. Even though the hot surface igniter is glowing red hot. chances are the igniter is bad. Let me know what turns up. ken

SOURCE: My kenmore gas oven won't heat. I turn to dial to

When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven would not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve would not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

-- defective thermostat
-- defective selector switch
-- defective gas safety valve
-- defective gas valve coils

I have a Kenmore Gas Wall Oven Model Number 911.30469894. When BAKE is selected, temperature shows 100 degrees and the oven never starts up or gets hot. BROIL works fine. Thank you, John

The oven control supplies voltage to the oven igniter/gas valve circuit. When the oven control is set to Bake, voltage is supplied to the oven igniter which should glow bright red to almost white hot. Once the igniter comes on and begins to glow it must pull enough current to cause the gas valve to open so the burner can ignite from the igniter. I added an image below with the theory of operation. Click this link:--http://media.fotki.com/1_p,swbbsqrsgstsqkkxgtqsskgwtqkq,vi/wrgtsbrktxwdfwfbgdg/1/1303472/5961857/image5576034710104836299img-or.png

----Open the broiler drawer and then set the oven control to bake and watch to see if the glow bar igniter glows or not. If it does not glow, the failure could be a broken Igniter, failed oven control board or gas valve. If the igniter is glowing red, then it can be possible that gas valve is faulty. To see how igniter looks. See the fig below:--

------------

Also to confirm, check to see if the igniter is getting 120 volts when it's turned on. If it gets 120 volts, then your safety gas valve is bad because it's not letting the neutral go through. Otherwise, if it's NOT getting 120 volts, your control board shorted out and you need a new control board.
But as you mentioned that control board is replaced. So igniter should get 120 volts. If valve is faulty. But if igniter is not glowing then its faulty igniter confirmed.

To see how gas valve looks, please click the link below:---

In most of the cases the igniter is faulty, because gas valve getting faulty is very rare. But still getting the voltages checked, will confirm. These will help. Thanks. Helpmech.

Oven takes too long to heat up sometimes wont even go to the temperature ignitor is working well can see the glow magic chef model 3488vvv serial 13368882kz

Hello there:
Hi,

When you turn the oven on, open the oven door and look down at the bottom and see if its glowing red, it should glow red for about 45-60 seconds then you should hear the gas ignite. If the gas doesn't ignite, then your igniter glow bar is bad.

Here's the oven glow bar igniter for your model:

Kenmore gas oven; range&broiler work, not bake cycle-bad ignitor?

Well there are other parts that control the igniter, but if you can remove the igniter and look for any cracks. Most are hard to find so you may need a magnifying glass.Any crack no matter how small will keep it from glowing. The gas will not flow until the photo senser has detected the igniter glowing for several seconds. You can get a parts breakdown at SearsPartsDirect.com.Well hope this helps.

The oven burner will not ignite.

Because the glowbar is glowing does not necessarily make it good.
Turn off the gas to the stove. Remove the oven racks. Remove the bottom oven pan. Remove the flame spreader. This gives you access to the glow bar and gas valve.
Put a clamp on amp meter around one wire of the glowbar. Turn the oven control on to BAKE.
If the glowbar reads 3 amps or less, replace the glowbar ignitor.
If the glowbar reads good, check the burner tube for a white ash buildup. It can be cleaned with a wire brush. Look closely near the glowbar section of the burner.
Check all the wire connections for the gas valve.
If the glowbar is good and the ash deposits are gone and the oven still will not ignite, the next step is to replace the gas safety valve.

Why does the Oven take so long to light?

It sounds like it might be a sticking gas control valve for the oven or the hot surface igniter for the oven might be weak. You will need to turn the oven on and off completely several times until the problem happens. When I say completely I mean turn on the oven control and watch the igniter start to glow. Then when the oven burner comes on(should within a minute) shut of the oven control and wait for the igniter to stop glowing completely and burner to shut off completely. Then repeat the process again. If you try it about 10 times and nothing happens then the problem will be difiicult to identify. If you turn on the oven control and the igniter comes on but the gas burner does not then try giving the gas control valve(located in brolier/storage compartment) a tap with a wrench. If the burner suddenly comes on then the control valve was sticking. Try repeating the shut down/turn on process again. If it does not do it again you may have fixed the problem...if it does you will need to remove the igniter and test it with an ohm meter(should read at least 500 to 800 ohms). If the igniter is testing good and glowing brightly then the gas control valve would be the suspected problem. And remeber to be very careful when doing these testing procedures so you do not hurt yourself.

My Amana gas oven won't heat up gas smell strong

Sounds like a sticking gas valve or a defective hot surface igniter. Open the broiler drawer or remove the bottom cover in the oven compartment. The oven usually has a hot surface igniter or a spark igniter. Turn on the oven and watch for the hot surface igniter to start glowing. It should glow very bright. Once it is glowing the burner gas should come on. If you hear the gas come on it should light right away. If there is any delay shut off the oven and stay back. Let the gas clear out then inspect the area near the igniter and make sure the burner is not plugged(the little holes may have debris in them). If you turn on the oven and the igniter comes, glows brightly,no gas is heard but you can smell gas it is either a blocked burner orfice/assembly or sticking gas control valve. Try giving the burner and gas control valve a tap and see if it comes on. If you tap the control valve and it starts working then shut of the oven and try it several times. If it starts to come on and off now you may have cleared whatever debris was causing the problem. If it does it again then it could be the control valve or a weak hot surface igniter. The igniter can be tested with a ohm meter. Most of the time when I get this complaint it is the oven control valve that is sticking. Be very careful when doing these procedures....gas can build up in the oven compartment very quicky and flash if ignited. Always have the gas shut off valve at the back of the range within reach and the electrical outlet in case you need to unplug it.

Kenmore Oven not working

Remove the bottom panel from inside the stove. Turn on the stove and see if the igniter glows bright red. If not glowing, replace the igniter. In some cases, even if the igniter is glowing, the resistance may not be low enough to turn on the gas valve. In either case the igniter has probably gone bad. ($50.00 to $90.00 for igniter)

GE Oven does not light - no gas smell and no electronic ignition clicking sound

It probably needs an oven igniter. Remove oven racks. Remove oven floor. Usually 2 screws towards back. Remove flame spreader if it has one. You can see long tube with holes in sides and igniter with 2 wires from rear. Now try oven. See if igniter glows. If it does but doesn't light within 1 minute, replace igniter.
If it doesn't glow, you need to check for power to igniter. Should be about 100 volts. If not may need ERC, "Electronic Range Control".
