SOURCE: pool heater wont fire up
Its just after 1 am here as well, Ontario Canada. Yes, you have to remove the front lower panel by raising it then pulling out at the bottom. Then compare the valve you have with the 2 in the picture on pg 5. If it is easier, you can have your husband call me while doing this and I can talk him through it. My contact information is located on the main page of my company website www.emshvac.com

this usually indicates a high limit condition.you must first ascertain if you have a component failure or a true high tempature condition.your model has 2 limit controls and they are both located in side panel on water in/out header

SOURCE: Raypak boiler nat gas for
Guessing you have a milivolt heater. While your pilot will light when you push the pilot light button down you need to generate 200mv to open the selenoid for the pilot and another 300mv for the main valve. This can be checked by removeing the leads from the pilot generator (wires from the pilot), Push the pilot button down and hold in place (a small screwdriver wedged in becide the button will do this) Then check the milivolt reading from the generator. This reading should be between 500 and 700mv (1/2 to 3/4 of a volt) If you don't have this your pilot generator is bad.
If you do then you need to hook the leads back up to the valve and unhook the saftey circut leads and try to light the pilot again. If the pilot still won't light your gas valve is bad. If it does then you have a problem in your saftey circut and you will need to check each item in the circut by removing and jumping past.
This would be more in line with just the main side of the valve not opening. So I'm sure you will find it to be the pilot generator or the valve being bad. As I stated before this system only runs on 1/2 a volt so all connections need to be clean and tight also. Could be other problems but this should cover the common reasons. Good luck.

SOURCE: I have a Raypak Pool
Hard to be sure, but if the pilot light is lite and the gas is still not being allowed through, then it is most likely to be the thermocouple. The tube that senses the heat of the pilot light, and carries that information back to the valve. In fact, often the thermocouple is just not placed directly in the pilot light flame well enough. If it is well heated, then I would change the thermocouple. Some are electric, and others use pressure. But it is usually not hard to change, and they often go bad.
Here is an image of a typical pressure operated one:
Here is a link that shows electrical ones:
But there are also other possibilities, such as the high temp cut off switch.
You can test that with an ohmmeter, but be careful because you would need to do it hot.
Other possibilities is that if you recently opened the piping, you would need to purge the air out, and if you used galvanized pipe or have any sediment, it can also plug the tiny gas orifice. You can remove, inspect, and clean it. But careful not to **** it out by sticking a wire through it too roughly.
