I try to plug in my belkin 54 wireless usb thing into my xbox 360 and my xbox doesnt even recognize that it is in there and i dont know where to start but i would like to be able to play games online and...

Hi,

XBOX 360 is alredy wifi enabled you dont have to plug a thing in to it, if you want to configure wireless

All you got to do is turn on your wireless router/access point and try to search for available network in Xbox 360 and upon selectin the network it would ask for wireless key (WEP key cab found on the back or bottom of router) punch in the key and bingo...its done
Your box is ready to be wirelessly connected to internet and play online

alternatively if you dont ahve a wirelss router or you are facing difficulty is seraching wireless router or finding the security key

Connect the router to modem > then connect the router and XBOX with an ethernet cable
It will work

Else you can also try connecting the modem and XBOX with an ethernet or USB cable

(However in all the aboove scenario, please ensure the modem is getting the internet link through the normal RJ11 or phone cable, please dont unplug that else though your XBOX would be connected to Modem or router but it wont get internet connection)

How to hookup wireless internet

To connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.
Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)
Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
Save your settings and verify the network is functional.
On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.
On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead. Tips: Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.

Cant connect to internet using internet stick

The internet stick you have would be a USB device which is not supported by Xbox 360, you can connect to Xbox 360 wirelessly or through a wired connection

One way of connecting wireless internet is through the ethernet cable to a laptop paired with your wireless router, or you would have to buy a Wi-Fi adapter for Xbox 360 which retails around $90.

Since Xbox 360 does not have a software like a PC, it is unable to recognize the USB internet stick you have as a internet connection, it may probably end up showing it up just as a USB device on the system settings menu on the Xbox 360 dashboard

How do I connect Xbox 360 wirless network up

There are two ways to set up wireless connection to your Xbox 360, and get Xbox LIVE. Now remember, for you to do anything with the wireless connection, you need to buy Xbox LIVE. The company has a 3 month free trail for Xbox LIVE that you can sign up for. Then, when you have that bought, your true experience can begin. If you are fortunate enough that you console location is near your internet router, then you can hook up your 360's internet cord to the back of your router. then you will have to go to your internet configuration and test your connection, and you will have live. The other way is by going to Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Gamestop, or any other game seller and buy something that is called the Xbox 360 wireless connection router. I'm not sure if that is the exact name, but it looks like a pretty small internet router. Then, you hook that up to the front or back of your 360, into one of the many USB ports, and you install it. You may need help and may have to call Xbox 360 customer service. But, those are the two ways to get live.
Please rate.

I have a wireless router hooked to my computer & my son recently got a wireless-G USB adapter so that he can play his xbox 360 online. Will this work, or will we have to put the router on the xbox...

XBOX 360 will only work properly with a 'genuine' USB WIFI adapter designed specifically for it (and at an over inflated price IMO!).
One popular way to play 'network' via the internet is to connect the XBOX 360 to your PC via Ethernet cable and have the PC connecting to the internet either via another ethernet connection or more likely via a Wifi connection which could be via your USB adapter connected to your PC and talking to your Wifi Router)

How to connect to XboxLive via 1800HG 2WIRE+Linksys adaptor?

The easiest way to connect to Xbox Live without using your pc is to buy a
wireless network adapter for your Xbox.

You would then go into the system settings on the Xbox and configure the settings for your wireless network.
