Either the driver got corrupted or the unit itself has failed.
Disconnect the unit from the pc, uninstall the preset driver and all the associated software, reboot, do a search for all remaining Canon folders and manually delete them, run a system cleaner like
and reboot one more time. Now you can install the software: download (as in Save, not Run) them from here
Start with the MP driver, then the Add On Module and then all the rest - and install them all in that order.
If even after that the scan side doesn't work then the unit is defective. You could repair it, just that it's not worth it - it will be cheaper just to buy a new one.
