Question about Vacuums

Open Question

I have 2 minka-lavery, Ardmore Collection wall sconces on either side of a fireplace. There are 2 screws in the top portion which I have removed, but there is no way to release the top from the decorative arms holding the main part of the fixture on the top and bottom. I cannot access the burned out bulbs to replace them. There must be some trick to it. Can you help please. Thank you. Susan

Normally, there is a post sticking out of the retainer to remove it. If the post is broken off, then you will have to lift the black arm and wiggle it at the same time and the retainer will pop up so you can remove it. On the belt side, the retainer is fairly large and you can usually get a hold of it with a pair of needle nose pliers. On the other side, the retainer is small and you can lift it out with the pliers by griping it gently using the hole that the screw goes through.

SOURCE: How do I detach the cloth bag from my Kirby G3 Vaccuum to wash it

I would clean the bag by blowing it out with compressed air (lightly). If you do wash it, do it by hand in room temp water and air dry. I'm not too sure how to remove the whole bag on that model. You should call your local vacuum dealer to inquire, and ask the same question you asked here on Fixya.

There are usually two portions of the top lid to be removed to gain access to the motor compartment. Lift the top lid, squeeze the hinge to get the side into the frame of the hinge so it can release and allow them to come out. The same procedure should get the second lid removed. Now you should be at the second cover assembly, which is removed by releasing two, one on each side, snap clip tabs. They are located on the side of the 3rd cover, near the front corner. The corner needs to be lifted till the little tab snaps loose, then when both sides are loose this cover can be removed. Keep an eye out for screws that may need to be removed from time to time on some of the covers. They should be fairly self-evident when they're there. This should put you into the motor cavity so that you can lift the motor out , disconnect the wires and go check the motor.

How do I take about my Dyson DC11 to replace the retractable power cord assembly

While it doesn't require a collection bag, a Dyson-brand vacuum cleaner can still suffer the problems of wear and tear that are prone to any vacuum cleaner--for example, a frayed power cord. If the power cord of your Dyson vacuum cleaner has become frayed, change it immediately to avoid a dangerous electrical mishap. You will need a replacement cord from an electronics service center, along with a few common household tools. You do not need electrical skills to complete the task.
Follow this steps on how to replaced the power cord assembly:

1 Unplug the Dyson vacuum cleaner's power plug from the wall outlet. Press the button on the top front of the plastic collection cover. Lift the cover off the front of the vacuum cleaner and place it aside.

  • 2 Trace the power cord to where it enters the back bottom of the vacuum cleaner. Remove the screws from the panel surrounding the power cord with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the panel. Aim the beam of a flashlight inside the compartment so that you can see where the wires at the end of the power cord wrap around two screws on the motor assembly. Loosen these screws with a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

  • 3 Pull the power cord out of the compartment and dispose of it properly. Strip a 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the two wires of the replacement power cord. Run the wires into the compartment along the path of the original power cord--pushing the wires into the grooves inside the compartment.

  • 4 Tie a knot on the cord on the inside of the compartment to prevent the cord from being pulled out.

  • 5 Wrap the exposed end of each wire of the power cord around the loosened screws. Tighten the screws. Replace the panel and reattach the screws. Stand the vacuum cleaner right side up. Place the bottom of the plastic collection cover into the bottom front slot on the vacuum cleaner. Push the cover back on the front of the vacuum cleaner.

I can not figure how to remove the microwave from the outer bracket. We are trying to replace with new GE microwave but can't remove the old one from over the stove.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

you did not list your model, so

    Turn off power to unit

1 way. you will have 2 to 3 screws ontop of the unit, open the cupboard door above unit, and look for them. remove all the screws, KEEP UNIT PUSHED AGAINST THE WALL, it will not drop down.
once all 2 or 3 screws are gone tilt unit down a little and lift up and away from wall (TWO PEOPLE)

2nd way if you dont see any screws on top, is look at the upper panel, remove if you can, or look for silver type round screw heads... if you see them..loosen them..unit will become loose from the wall. one on each side.

I tried to help you. Please help me and Rate/Vote on my response. We take the time to answer your question. take the time to rate us.Thanks and good luck

undo the side clamps so that you can get to the dirt below.
Grab the handle and remove the top portion of the canister.
Take the top portion and to go the table.
Remove all the attachments (if they are even attached).
twist and remove the cap under the handle at the top.
remove the three screws under the cap at the top of the machine.
when the screws are out, pull up on the handle and the chrome top should come off from the plastic cone underneath. all of your wires and switch are under the chrome dome there.

cut your cord about 1 inch from the machine, and re-insert it into the machine making sure you do it safely. Wire connectors and NO TAPE.

    Good luck.

Little Green pro heat is leaking from bottom with very little suction. I just purchased it.

Try the following suggestions for the leaking issue:

    - Check to see if the black or white "duck bill" gasket is misassembled or missing from the collection tank; ensure the gasket will open where the flat flaps meet and then reinstall it. The duck bill should be inserted into the curved side of the collection tank.
    - Check to see if the solution tank/cap insert is leaking.
Note: When the solution tank is filled and turned right side up, the straw on the insert may fill with water/solution causing the tank to leak for a couple of seconds. This leaking should subside after the straw empties out.
    - Check for proper placement of the o-ring on the cap insert. The o-ring should be between the bottle and the insert piece (part with the "straw").
Try the following for the suction issue.
    - Remove the Collection tank and locate the circular motor duct on the base of the machine. Turn the machine on and feel for suction at this location. If you feel suction proceed as follows:
    - Remove the gasket from the bottom of the Collection Tank. Ensure that this gasket is open (not sealed shut) at the top of the gasket where the flaps meet. If the end is not open, simply squeeze the end to open it. The “duck bill” shaped portion of this gasket should align with the rounded side of the Collection Tank.
    - Check to make sure there are no cracks in the flexible vacuum hose or in the tool you are using.
    - Make sure the collection tank latch is locked down securely.
    - Check for suction at the end of the hose with the attachment off by suctioning water out of the sink or a cup. If there is low/poor suction, check the hose for clogs by raising the hose handle above the unit to allow the water to go into the collection tank.
The issues may be related as you can see some of the suggestions are similar.

When I switch it on the plastic compartment which holds the bag starts to be sucked in towards the bag and there is no suction at the end of the hose

Your Hoover U5076 has a clog. Fist unplug the vacuum from the wall socket. Remove the attachement hose from the door on the head, close the door. Remove the screw just below the main bag compartment, with a phillips or flat head screw driver. Be sure not to loose the nut in back. Hold the base down with your foot and pull up on the handle to sperate the two pieces. The lower portion revieled is the exhaust for the dirt from the motor and that is where your clog should be. Use a flat head screw drive to remove what is there so you have a clean path. If there is no clog there check the up portion that you pulled off for a clog, you may need a coat hanger to dislodge the clog. Once the path way is clear you can reassemble the vacuum and it will work fine.

    HOW DO I CHANGE THE BELT ON THE FANTOM® THUNDER® AND FURY®? a.gif fantombeltchange1.jpg
    fantombeltchange2.jpg
    fantombeltchange3.jpg
    1. Unplug the machine.
    2. From the front of the machine, remove the collection bin.
    3. Facing the back of your vacuum, remove each of the Philips head screws located above each of the rear wheels. (Figure 1)
    4. To remove the base cover, place your thumbs in the two screw holes in the back of the machine. Push forward and up on the screw holes to disengage the 3 cover locking tabs. Put the cover off to one side, and go to the front of the machine. (Figure 2)
    5. Check the drive arm for any black streaks which indicate residual rubber from the last belt. The drive arm is located on the right side of the motor. The easiest way to remove any residual rubber is with some nail polish remover on a rag or with steel wool.
    6. To attach a new belt, remove the brush from the base of the machine by pulling up straight up with two hands.
    7. Take the new belt and hook it over the steel drive arm. Pull back on the belt slightly, to create some tension.
    8. Put the brush inside the belt loop so that the track for the belt is aligned with the belt itself.
    9. Replace the brush by aligning the metal end so the points face downward. (Figure 3)
    10. Rotate the brush by hand to check that the belt is running freely and easily in its designated space between the bristle.
    11. Replace the cover by placing the nose in first. Once in place fasten with the two cover screws and then replace the collection bin.
