Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

The water dispenser on my 'side by side' Whirlpool refrigerator will not shut off. Model: ED5LHAXMB10. We had shut the household water off while away on a trip, upon returning and turning water back on... we found that when dispensing water 'in the door' dispenser... it will not shut off and just keeps pouring out. We have hard water, so i don't know if a lime deposit build up is the problem or perphaps an electrical switch problem inside of the water dispesner in the door. i have replaced the water filter and problem persist. The fridge is approx. 6 years old, but dispenser gets very little use.

    Thanks, still wondering though....
It seems to work intermittently, sometimes staying on and sometimes not. It is dripping water for a period of time, even after I press the 'lock dispenser' button. I wondered if having the household water turned off and draining down the line a bit has some thing to do with the problem... along with hardwater issue...?

This could be caused by a malfunctioning fill valve. Here is the one it calls for. Valve is in back, it is what water supply line connects to.

Thanks for the solution. It seems to work intermittently now...dripping water slowly for awhile. I have it in 'locked dispenser' mode now.
However, I still wonder about the fact that we had no problems until turning and draining household water while away at spring break. Hardwater issues, air in line...? versus electronic switch malfunction...?
Is there any way for a layman to diagnosis without buy/replacing new valve mechanism on the back of fridge?
We hardly ever use the ice maker... should I dare turn the ice maker on... or am I asking for more water overflow issues to add to my hardwood floors...!??
    Thanks,

You probably have some deposits in the valve. Your symptoms are normal for a valve going bad, the only thing to do is replace it.

Water dispenser dripping water all the time

Hi,

First be sure the refrigerator is connected to a cold water supply. After connecting the refrigerator to a water source or replacing the water filter, flush the water system. Use a sturdy container to depress and hold the water dispenser lever for 5 seconds, and then release it for 5 seconds. Repeat until water begins to flow. Once water begins to flow, continue depressing and releasing the dispenser lever (5 seconds on, 5 seconds off) until a total of 12 L has been dispensed. This will flush air from the filter and water dispensing system, and prepare the water filter for use. Additional flushing may be required in some households. As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out of the dispenser.

One or two drops of water immediately after dispensing is normal. It may be necessary to hold the container under the dispenser for 2 to 3 seconds after releasing the dispenser lever.

Hope this will be useful.

Thank you

Whirlpool side by side with a broken water dispenser

you may have a sticking water lever or a bad water valve.
the lever can be changed from the front and you should know if it sticks.
the water valve can be replaced from the rear of your unit. it is the plastic part where the water line hooks up to the unit.

I need to clean the plastic parts in the ice and water section on the door of the side by side Model ed25cq

Use mild household cleaners. If you have a brown build up use vinegar to clean. Soak if needed. Good luck. Please rate so I know if I helped. Thanks.

Maytag refrigerator Model MZ02766GEW does not dispense water

In the water supply line to the refrigerator is normally a saddle type valve where the water supply is connected to your house water line. Trace it back and shut the valve off fully then turn it back on. When some work is done to any part of your household water system sediment may have lodged in the saddle valve causing a restriction. Closing the saddle valve and reopening it may dislodge the restriction.

External water dispenser on Whirlpool Conquest model GS6SHAXKS01

Try this first. In the inlet side( where the little water line comes in) there is a small screen where the water is hooked up. Shut off the water and unhook the water line. there should be a small screen to keep out particles from entering your ice make/ water dispenser. See if that screen is plugged. If so clean the screen. you can put it in vinager over night if you want. It will help clean it.

Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator - 2 problems

I would suggest that you get a certified person to come out and look at it you very well could have bent the doors in the move.

but... if you want to do it yourself.

for your drip:
Flush air from the water system the first time it is used and after replacing the filter. Air trapped in the water line or filter may slowly travel through the coiled water reservoir to the dispenser, pushing any water ahead of it. This can cause the dispenser to drip. Water needs to completely fill the lines for all air to be cleared.
  • Use a sturdy container to press and hold the water dispenser bar for 5 seconds, then release it for 5 seconds. Repeat until the water begins to flow. Once the water begins to flow, continue pressing and releasing the dispenser bar (5 seconds on, 5 seconds off) for an additional 2 minutes. Repeat if dripping starts again because air can re-enter from the water supply.
  • As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt from the water dispenser.
  • Make sure the refrigerator is connected to a cold water supply.
One or two drops of water immediately after dispensing is normal. It may be necessary to hold the container under the dispenser for 2 to 3 seconds after releasing the dispenser lever.
