Your stereo went into protect mode to prevent complete failure of the amplifier inside that radio. Most of the time this happens from playing the stereo real loud for a real long time and it overheats. Most of the time disconnecting the receiver/stereo and letting it cool all the way down or at least 5 minutes and then reconnecting it to the power source will reset the protection mode. You want to make sure you are keeping the radio cool. Don't stack anything on top of it and try keeping a small fan blowing on it to expedite the heat out from the unit. Also turning it down every now and then to let everything cool down a bit will help prevent it from going into protection mode as well.

What do I do when I try unplugging my radio and put a fan on it and it still says protect

Check your speaker wiring for possible shorts, if okay the problem is more than likely in the audio output chip in the bookshelf system. I recommend having it checked by a technician.

Sony Mhc GS100 want power up

The unit is in protect mode because a problem was deteected in the final output stage of the amplifier. The pop in the speakers is a god indication that there is DC current in the output stage. This is not a good thing. This is a relatively common failure of all receivers and can easily be fixed by any shop that does audio repair. Expect a parts cost in teh $30-$40 range.

Display don't work

This is a pretty hard problem to solve. First of all you need another display, and then you need to unsolder all the connections to the existing display and then solder in the new display. There are about thirty soldering points, so you will need to be able to solder really well. The alternative that I have found which works OK for me is to shine a torch onto the display. You can then see it FAIRLY well. Hope this helps you.
