Question about Schwinn 26in Men's Drifter Cruiser Bike

1 Answer

I've just bought this bike, 26" schwinn drifter, and every time I get on it to go out, the retainer ring pops out and the sprocket comes loose, pedaling does nothing, and brakes do nothing. Every time I pop it back in it comes out. How do I keep the snap ring from popping out?

Take it back to your dealer unless you have the correct bottom bracket wrench.

It's not clear what you're describing but a Bicycle Shop could cast an eyeball on it and tighten that which is loose. Or maybe you can find the problem and a solution here...

On my shcwinn ranger the chain clicks and skips when it encounters difficult terrain such as a hill

It's likely that you need to replace the rear sprocket cluster due to chain wear. Over time the chain stretches, and then wears out the teeth of the sprockets (usually on the rear, but it can affect the front chain ring as well). If you look at the teeth on the rear sprockets, you'll probably see that they've got concave wear on the rear edge of them - this is probably the source of the chain slippage when under load. You should take the bike into your local bike shop and get them to take a look. Hope this helps. Ryes, Scott

My daughter has a Schwinn Sidewinder 26" mountain bike. The chain keeps jumping from the rear sprockets to a smaller sprocket under power. I have noticed that the rear sprocket set "wobbles"...

It's loose on the hub. Special tools are required to tighten them. Bike Shops have them and will possibly perform the repair for less than the cost of the tools.

Word to the wise: don't buy bicycles from anywhere but a professional bicycle shop. Box stores don't usually have the skills for proper assembly, setup or follow-up.

Why not call a Schwinn dealer and ask if they can order it for you? You do realize that you void any warranty by altering you bike, don't you? But, if you don't care, look on the www.schwinn.com website and find a Schwinn dealer near you.
