Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

Tube doesn't spin during rinse/spin cycle.

Our washer works fine until it reaches the rinse/spin cycle. The machine continues to run (drain the water) but the tub does not spin. I know the tube does not spin because it "tricked" the lid closed switch to see. The water drains out almost completely but our clothes are still VERY wet.

I have the same exact problem. The washer is approx 3 years old, It agitates, and the pump works, the belt is in good condition.

I am having the same problem also. Kind of funny that were having the same problem with the same washer around the same time. Maybe there should be a recall since so many of these are braking down for the same reason? Wonder how do we go about getting Maytag to pay for it?

i have the same drains and fills up...but i dont think it spins...because when the cycle is over...the clothes are still pretty drippy...wonder what the problem is.

Ok. here's the deal people. I'm an awesome mechanic and can tell you exactly what to do... take it to the nearest or cheapest repair center. Why? because the brake is stuck. I was able to get a breakdown from the internet that showed the brake assembly and I was able to take it apart and put it bake together ONCE. It failed again but this time for some reason I wasn't strong enough to put it back together. the brake spring has 200lb's of pressure on it and it's difficult to deal with if you don't have the right tools or experience. It cost me $127 to have it fixed but I took it to the place my self. I'm sure a house call would be about $50 or $60 more. But Wait! try this before you take it in. Lean the washer back enough so you can get under it. Yank off the little cup right in the middle of the large pulley. You will see the shaft end with a little retainer clip on it. Being careful not to damage the shaft (put something against it) give it a couple of whacks with a hammer. If your brake was just stuck from not being used this should free it up and it'll be fine. But wait! There is an inherent flaw with the brake assembly and an upgraded park/package is available (thats what I got). Just so you'll know, when the motor runs forward there's a cam in that big pulley that doesn't engage to release the brake and so the machine can agitate. Then the motor reverses and the cam engages releasing the brake to allow the drum/basket to spin. I live in Santa Fe, Texas. The shop that fixed my machine was E.J. and Sons on FM 646.

Hello I have a Maytag Washer Model A512 The machine goes through a regular cycle OK - However, it DOES drains the water out during the rinse cycle, but does NOT drain the water out during the spin...

The timer will always advance to the next program if the machine does not fully drain. There is ALWAYS a spin when draining the water out, there is only one pump and one motor. The waterlogged laundry maybe telling the timer that there is still water in the tub. Put the machine on "Spin" and cheat the lid switch into thinking that the lid is closed. Use a clothes peg or wide ended screwdriver and see if there really is a spin....

Ge front load washer won't go into rinse cycle.

Check the cold water hose. My brand new machine had this behavior until I discovered a kink in the cold water hose - works great now.

Spin/drain cycle won't start

If the timer gets to the rinse cycle and stops,
Check the lid switch for continuity. If no continuity replace the lid switch.
If the timer continues through rinse and spin without doing either, replace the timer.

Washer continuously fills but drains at the same time during rinse cycle.

you have the drain pipe too low into tthe house drain pipe, raise the washers drain pipe up , you only need four inches down into the hous drain

also the house drain pipe needs to be as high as the lid of the machine before you put the washer drain tube into the house drain

you have a syphoning effect

Won't fill during rinse cycle

It keeps spinning or you just hear noises and it doesn't end cycle ? Following your description regarding water in tub when you start a new cycle, check for : * Switch level - The switch level is usually a diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. I am not familiar with this specific machine, but if you will remove the cabinet, you will find it easily. Clear first any obstruction in the tube,In case it doesn't help, disconnect the wires from the unit (you should disconnect first machine's power cable !!!!!) and measure with a multi-meter on its tugs for continuity and disconnection while you are inhale and blow to its tube. In case it doesn't react, you should replace it. * Pump and drain host - Check that pump works and that you have no blockage on your drain line. Good luck !! (courtesy dovi)
