Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Bernina Deco 340. When I begin sewing, it only sews a few stitches before the thread jams and I have a huge mess in the bobbin case. I've taken the top off and cleaned the thread out of the bobbin case several times and the same thing happens again. I changed needles but it did the same thing. Please help. Thanks.

First make sure you have the presser foot lever up when threading the machine.
It you have been doing that then I would check the bobbin area for burs of any kind on the bobbin basket (sometimes you can sand the off). That's about all you can do with the covers on.
Hope this helps

It appears the machine is not recognizing you are changing the thread and restarting the machine. You are probably doing these, but just in case: Raise both the needle and the pressure foot and then rethread the machine; then after changing out the bobbin, pull the the bobbin thread up thru the face plate, as you would with any change in thread. Then lower the pressure foot and make a couple of stitches manually by turning knob - then press the start button. Also, I don't have a Bernina, but some machines have an option to press okay once you have changed the thread, to let it know it is ready to begin sewing again. Sorry, that is all I can think of.

Sews 1/4" and then sews in place

1) remove upper and bottom threads. Try sew without threads.
Is fabric transported corectly?

NO:
- Drop feed dog button is OFF
- Dust under stitch plate
- Transporter malfunction (must be taken for a service to the BERNINA dealer)

YES:
- Upper or bottom thread jammed
- The upper thread tension is too tight.
- Wrong needle used (probably small ...)

The machine jams

make sure the top thread isn't coming off the thread take up lever and also the sewing machine may need to be checked for a timing problem.

My Bernina Deco 340 does not pick the bobbin thread but keeps saying the top thread is broken

Check the needle timing. Go to bernina on the web and download the service manual for your model. The eye of the needle should be at the pick arm of the bobbin case Too early or late and it will miss the cotton.

Bernina activa 210 won't zigzag and has bobbin issues on straight stitch

it's very possible that the machine is slightly out of time & needs to be service at a sewing machine shop
is the fabric & thread & needle compatable with each other?
did you use every thread guide when threading the machine?
is the bobbin in correctly?
is the bobbin warped?

Why won't my Bernina Activa 140 sew the blind hem stitch?

Are you absolutley sure you're not getting a problem with stitch formation on, for example, wide zig-zag. Check again, using a different colour top and bottom and make sure that the stitch is being formed properly with only the top colour on top and bottom colour on the bottom. It sounds as though the bottom loop is not being picked-up by the hook properly. Make sure you've thoroughly cleaned-out any fluff under the stitch-plate and remove the hook/shuttle and give the hook race a good clean and give it a single drop of oil, even if you've got the lightweight part-plastic hook/shuttle fitted.

I have a Bernina 340 Deco embroidery computer. I am having trouble (lots) with the thread looping on top of fabric.

Make sure the bobbin case and shuttle are free from any thread tangles.

Thread with the presser foot up.

If problem persists, the machine will need to go into the shop where an authorized Bernina tech can check the timing and do a general service of the machine.

Take a sample of the mis-stitching.

Just got my used Bernina deco 650 from the shop. Tension off

The tensions are not calibrated properly. To get by, or if you do not want to take it back to the shop, just lower the upper tension a little at a time until it looks ok.

Bernina Bernette 600 Deco embroidery machine

It could be that there is a loose piece of thread, or some fluff which is obstructing the tension gauge. Try blowing around the theading area (or even run the hoover pipe near it to see if you can **** it out). I cleared mine by folding a piece of non fluffy material and rubbing gently between the tension dial and machine.

Good luck
