Question about Cell Phones

3 Answers

I have a Motorola W490, and about a week and a half ago, and the phone is brand new, like a month old, and the problem started with the screen freezing a lot, and when I tried to close it, it still had th -T- logo on the front screen. And I decided to use another cell phone, and I just put my sim card back in my W490, and now the screen is completly black, inside and out. And I don't want to send it to Motorola, it would take to long, and I don't want to buy a new phone.. Has anyone had this problem or is it just me.. And, I also updated the software!! Is there anything I should do?

Same thing happens everyday my mom gave me that phone and there is always a white screen delay for about 20 secs some say it either dust, physical damage, battery, or needs software update.

I'm so pissed i am in the exact same situation. i've only had my phone since late may, and haven't had too many problems with it. then last week it all began. i would set the phone down for a while, and whenever i would go to flip it open the screen would be either black or white. i then have to press a bunch of numbers or turn my phone off entirely to get it going again. yeah it's a piece of ****. ii've heard a lot of motorola phones have this problem. i'm going to take mine in and see if i can get a replacement. i also heard this just happens with a lot of flip phones, but i don't want to spend the $200 or so on a sidekick. blah. sorry i'm not much help, but i just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

I have a motorola w490 my screen has went white

Unfortunately it's "PROBABLY" time for a new phone.
I had a W490 as well as a friend of mine that did the very same thing.
For us it was the beggining of the end for an otherwise great phone.
Sorry

The way I see it, there's 4 options; A. check the warranty, B. buy a new screen, C. buy a new Droid, or D. get a different phone (or a clone of the same phone).

W490 Motorola inital screen comes on, then goes black.

There is usualy no certain way to tell whats to blame on a bad phone without testing, but in your case I think that it is your phone that is malfunctioning. A low/bad battery either doesn't turn on or if it does it will at leat allow the phone to go on and then displays low battery before shutting off.
If you are out of warranty period, then you can easily flash this phone fo much cheaper than purchasing a new one. I would ecoment that you first take it o a repair place to be examined.

Motorola W490 Display issue

You need to replace the flex cable. It's the cable that connects the circuit board (under the numbers) to your screen. It runs through the bend in your phone so as you can imagine it takes alot of abuse. I had the same problem with my w490. I couldn't find another phone in my price range that I liked so I decided to fix the 490 myself. The cable was $7 on ebay and the small star screw driver was $6 (T3 - T6) at Lowe's. I used a plastic knife in place of the special cell phone tool. Doing it myself was challenging. It took me about an hour because I had to figure out how to take the phone apart, replace the cable then reassemble it while defending all the parts and pieces from my 15 month old. Now my phone works fine. No more white screen or having to turn it on or off several times.
