Where you put water for the steam...mix same parts white vingar and distilled water and pour it in.
Hold it level over a sink or tub and let if go through a few cycles. After it cleans out, only use distrilled water and it will not go brown again.

Hi,

Brown water and white scale are often the result of the water you use in the iron...

If you have scale, white vinegar will clean that...

For brown water, empty the iron, rinse out the insides with bottled water,

and then use the bottled water instead...

The iron is emitting scale & dirt through the steam holes

Sometimes filling the water tank with lemon juice or running a proprietry steam iron cleaner through it, will resolve this problem. If however, the iron has just had straight tap water all its life, the tank and soleplate may be badly corroded inside... Sorry, but it could be time for a new iron.... If you are lucky, the tank and or soleplate would be available as a spare part but in most cases, if these fail, the iron is considered unrepairable due to the cost and lack of parts..

How to clean base of iron only 6 months old

If it has a non-stick sole plate: 1. heat 1 tablespoon each of vinegar and salt to boiling and then let cool - you want the salt to dissolve. 2. Use a nylon scrubbie that won't scratch and remove deposits/scorch areas with the solution. 3. If your iron is non-stick, it is supposed to be self cleaning. Happy Ironing.

My Black & Decker F1050 steanm iron started spitting ugly brown water out today...HELP?

Hi Barb,
It sounds like you have rust buildup in your iron.

I would try cleaning it inside with a mixture of hot water, vinegar, and baking soda. Put the hot water and vinegar mix in first then add the baking soda. The bubbles do the work (scrubbing bubbles...). Then, rinse thoroughly.

Then, never put your iron away until completely dry inside. Let it heat until you're pretty sure it is dry. If you don't, the rust will come back real quickly.

Hope this helps. If you appreciate my response, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

There appears to be a yellowy brown discharge that appears on my shirts when I iron. It doesn't happen all the time. How do I fix this?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Your iron is building up calcium deposits inside the reservoir and occasionally they flake off and into the steam system along with any minor releases of steam and it is showing up on your garments. There are commercial products in the market place for cleaning your iron.

Run white vinegar through the iron over the sink with iron on high & steam button pressed down. This should dissolve any minerals that build up in it. Then run water through it over the sink to rinse the vinegar out.

Cleaning filter on the Dyson Slim

You don't have to clean the HEPA filter (underneath the canister in that clear part) - if you break that clear part you will cause damage to the machine and it won't **** anymore as the air will escape. There is no need to remove it or replace it, it is a lifetime filter. You only have to clean the blue filter that is inside the top of the canister/dirt bin.
