Question about Element Electronics EDBCO11 Blu-Ray Player

1 Answer

Purchased the Element Blu-Ray player, model EDBC011, from OfficeMax over a year ago (s/n KR800385960006243). Went to use it last year and it did not work. Called customer service and found out that it needed a Firmware Upgrade. Received the CD with the firmware upgrade and instructions. I am now getting around to doing this and the remote does not work. I have replaced the batteries in the remote. Need to know how to get the remote to work or what my options are. Thank you, Carol

The terminals are not corroded at all. In fact, they look like new. I even put brand new batteries in again. I watched the video. The remote is not functioning because I did not see any infrared light on the end of the remote. Can I ger a new remote?

Do you know the remote code? Is it 3 or 4 or 5 digits? If we know the code, we think we can get it.
    Thanks - Carol

I was not clear in my email what I was asking. I knew you did not need a code for the original remote. I was asking what the code would be if I had a universal remote. What is the code you would need to enter for an universal remote?

Hi Carol,
Check the terminal where the battery inserted for corrosion. Using the smooth sandpaper or blade gently scratch the terminal to erased the corroded part. After that re-insert the battery again (ensure the right polarity of the battery while inserting) and to confirm if the remote is functioning click this link for more info http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlTIrVQjaY8. Let me know if you need further assistance.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

If you can take it apart(dis-assemble), check first the board for bad solder joints. This is very common in remote control most especially in the battery terminal and in the infrared emitter's legs.

Another option is to replace it with universal remote control, but the problem is, I can't assure you if there is a compatible remote with your unit. I've already checked my link and other possible site to find the original remote but I didn't find one.

No need to program the original remote, it will directly functioned even without entering the universal code... check this link if you're remote is in stock...

code varies depend upon the brand and model no. of universal remote. In your case, ensure that your unit is in the list of compatible brand, listed in the manual provided by the universal remote control.

Need a replacement cord for edbc011 ..where can i find

Power cord is not a critical component to select. Just select one of good quality. That is all. You can buy it from most of the electronics spare part selling shops at your town. Keep the old power cord with you as a sample. If you have no power cord at all, just go with the player, to select a suitable power cord.

How to plug the blu-ray into the tv

It depends on the TV inputs. You will need to provide your own cables for most connections. If your TV has an HDMI in, get an HDMI M/M cable of an appropriate length. (Use an online shop for better prices.) This will provide the best picture. (If you have a sound system with HDMI ports, you may be able to go EDBC011 HDMI out to the sound systems HDMI in. Then the sound system HDMI out to the TV HDMI in.) If the TV has a DVI port, get an HDMI to DVI cable (again M/M). For this option, you will also need to connect the audio cable (see below in the composite or component video section).

Alternatively, this Blu-ray player has component and composite video out ports. Note: composite video is limited to SD. For these, you will have to connect the audio cables (RCA l/r audio or digital audio out). The composite video cable is included with the blu-ray player when new. For these, match the colors of the jacks to the wires to make sure that you have them correctly connected. You can put the audio cables to your sound system or your TV, as appropriate for your setup. For some TVs, you may need a RCA audio to 3.5 mm cable (all male ends) or adapter (for example RCA F/F to 3.5 mm M with an RCA audio cable or 3.5 mm F to RCA M/M with a 3.5 mm audio patch cable) . This applies for units with only the PC audio in.

Make the connections with the TV and the video player off (turn off the audio system if you are including that set of wiring). Then turn on the TV and set it to the desired input (use the Input/Source button on your remote or TV). Turn on the audio system (if using one) and blu-ray player.

If you have problems, first try different cables. Try other input connections and try different devices. It's possible for either the TV or the blu-ray player input/output jacks or boards were damaged.

The manual for the EDBC011 is available here: http://www.elementelectronics.com/support_docs/edbco11/edbco11_manual.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I recently purchased a Blu-Ray Disc Player from Office Depot. The brand name is Element Electronics (model number EDBC011). It plays everything but blu-ray discs. The DVD player asked me to download a file...

I had the same problem with the blu-ray player and fixed it with the downloaded files. When you download the files they come in a folder called 'firmware_update'. Did you make sure you only put the 16 files that are inside this folder onto the CD and not the whole folder? It won't work if you add the whole folder. The update on the blue-ray player takes up to 15 minutes. You have to be patient.
Hope this helps:-)

Won't play a new blu-ray video

I bought a Sharp BD-HP20S and got Stargate Continuum to play on it, only problem was it wouldn't.
Had bad pixilation, jumping picture and stuttering sound.
Went onto Sharp's website and followed the instructions for downloading and burning a firmware update cd (or usb stick).
Made an update cd, put it in and within 5 minutes the update was over.
Result?
Prefect picture and sound.
Really simple and easy to do.
If you don't want to make a cd yourself Sharp will send one out to you if you contact them.
