Question about Cell Phones

2 Answers

We bought a 4G dual sim phone in USA and brought it home to Australia. There was no warranty in packaging and VERY BASIC user guide that is not clear. We are now trying to work out how to use it. There is no brand name anywhere. Only info we have is Model:F8 GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900MHZ GSM quad-band cell phone. We have tried chinamanuals.com but without a brand name are unable to find the correct manual - we also want to esnure it is not just a reproduced booklet similar to the one we have. Can you direct us to where we might find a comprehensive manual to help us make this work?

There will be other data under the battery such as serial number, imei, and sim id (if it has a sim card). You can probably get a manual at the manufacturer's website. I don't know if the various carriers in Australia have support sites or service centers.

Any ideas as to what I do next or do I just consider my money gone? I have found similar phones with the same specs when I google however without a brand name or manufacturers name I can't go any further.

I just want to check with a 2nd opinion. We bought a 4G dual sim phone in USA and brought it home to Australia. There was no warranty in packaging and VERY BASIC user guide that is not clear. We are now trying to work out how to use it. There is no brand name/manufacturer name anywhere. Only info we have is Model:F8 GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900MHZ GSM quad-band cell phone. I found phones with the same specs in internet but need the manfacturer's name to get detailed information. We have tried chinamanuals.com but without a brand name are unable to find the correct manual - we also want to esnure it is not just a reproduced booklet similar to the one we have. Can you direct us to where we might find a comprehensive manual to help us make this work? We were also told that it wll work here in Australia however it does seem to be reading my sim so am wondering whether I have to unlock something. Thought we were buying from reasonably reputable store - obviously not.

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

    Thanks will try this.

Biggest problem frm playing with it today seems to be working the dual sim. It doesn't seem to want to recognise my existing sim card which makes me wonder whether the phone is locked for the US region only? Do you know if there is a setting I need to check?

Thanks for your help - it is appreciated.

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

Luckily we had a phone that we brought back from USA. We tried the sim and guess what - it works. We were assured that the phones were unlocked and we would be able to use it in Australia. It does not recognise my "australian" sim but does recognise the "US" one. Does this mean the phone is lokced and if so is there any way of unlocking it?

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

Thanks for all your help we appreciate it.

Do you know of a government consumer body in the States that we can write to? We bought the phone (and other things) from a shop in NY and were assured by the shop keepers that the phones would work. They virtually lied when being asked specific questions about networks and usage in Australia. Do we have any way of making a formal complaint?

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

One last question - if it were a phone with a brand name is there a similar procedure between phones for trying to unlock or is it different for each phone? We really don't have anything to lose now in trying to unlock it.

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

It doesn't have a sim card so it doesn't have a number or network. I think we have a few dollars left on the phone we bought to use in the states - would that do? I know where the IMEI number is (it has 2 - is this because it is a dual sim? - which do I use?) I don't know the manufacturer.

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

We tried both slots with my Aussie card and it didn't recognise any. We only tried one slot with US card and it recognised it straight away. Should we try both slots?

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

Just retried the aussie sim card to check that we did use both slots. It now has come up with a msge "Input SIM1 PIN" This msge has not come up b4 and we don't know what the pin is? Is this a good sign or should be just give up?

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

Sorry - yes it is too hard or yes it is a good sign?

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

You are brilliant!! We have the phone working from SIM1. If we buy another SIM and put it into the 2nd SIM compartment do you think it will work? or is it locked on one and open on the other? Also if I buy a new SIM for the one that does work there shouldn't be any problems should there??

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

Thank you so much - I appreciate your help and perseverence. Do I need to contact anyone to let them know how satisfied we are?

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

I have one last thing to ask you - not important we are happy the phone is working. Have tried another aussie sim in SIM2 and tried the American sim in SIM2. The phone is not recognising either one of them. Could it just be a phone setting?

  • bmitchell740 Mar 24, 2011

If the SIM2 slot is not recognising any SIM what does this mean - is it broken or is something not set correctly?

Some companies also offer unlocking equipment and products that are

These products are normally very useful but are sometimes quite costly.Techniques for unlocking a phone vary between phone models and phone
carriers. The techniques outlined below are some that you may use to
unlock your phone. You will first need the following information:Your mobile phone number. The network (and country) to which the phone is locked. The manufacturer and model number. The phone's IMEI number. My best advice is to contact any local cell phone service provider that uses a GSM network and see if they can help you get up and running. It is my understanding that Australia is on the older generation CDMA network, please check on this, as I can't from here in the USA. Thanks

Yes the phone is locked you can unlock it by using a unlocking service on the Internet, there is a modest charge to supply the needed code, we don't have access to the code at fixya so you must use the service. Here is the URL link to the unlocking service I recommend.

I bought This Phone From India and I Try To Use in USA But Everytime i put my sim card but its saw me No Serivce, Can u Halp me ?

India networks use either the GSM900 and GSM1800 protocols. . Delhi itself and much of Northern India is on the GSM900 standard.

Cellphone users in the USA subscribe to carriers that use one of two technology standards. : GSM (global system for mobile communications) or
CDMA (code division multiple access).

GSM is used by T-Mobile and Cingular.
CDMA is used by Verizon and Sprint.

You will have to get the correct SIM card/phone to call in the USA.

The FCC has set stringent parameters for cell phone emissions Standards. Only cell phones manufactured to these Standards are sold in the USA. Make sure your phone is not doing more damage to your health.
