I would definately re-format the PC and install the operating system and if theres still a problem after that my guess would be faulty memory. Backup anything important while its still starting up.

Hi, I have a Dell inspiron 2500 that I haven't used in a while and when I started it up it is giving me an error 0271 check date and time settings. I am running on electric current. There is an...

You may need to Set the date and time in side your BIOS, you can enter inside BIOS by pressing DEL or F2 keys and set the date and time. Or you can set the time and date in windows mood also.

if still you are facing the same problem than you may need to change your CMOS battery, it can be located near RAM or may be near your H.DD inside the laptop. Replace your old CMOS battery.

That's probably someone who pranked you by setting scripts or programs on your machine to do that. Just run dtrace or something to find out what programs are looking at media status (for 'closed') and decide whether any of them aren't familiar. Depending on your OS it could be a pretty small script or program....

It may on the other hand be something familiar whose backup function you haven't used or addressed in a while....

My dell inspiron 530s wont boot. just beeps and the fan (?) constantly sounds! grateful if you could help

I would check to make sure that the heat sink compound between the Heat sink and CPU has not dried out. This paste is supposed to stay somewhat soft and conducts heat away from the CPU. It can be purchased at Best Buy if you need some. Had the same problem recently with a Acer desktop. When I started it up the CPU fan just took off and would never slow down. Never could get windows to load either. Cleaned off the old compound using regular alcohol and put in new compound and it was quiet as could be. Windows loaded right up and it is working great. Heat is a major issue with the speed of CPUs these days. Hope this helps

It doesn't make much difference the brand of the router that you decide to get, just look into the specific model of router to make sure that it is compatible with your specific Dell system

Sounds as if you are using Vista .... maybe for the first time ? When you want to close down use the right hand end of the close down button. This will open up the age old familiar choice of switch, restart (your default I think ) and close down. hit close down. You can also reconfig this button but I cant remember the key strokes .. but ... you will get it. Hopethis works .. if not. You may have a BIOS prob that has been set to have your machine as a slave .. check it all out.

Good luck silvergeek
