Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

I want to upgrade to the new GeForce GTX 550 Ti by Nvidia, but I don't know if my HP Pavilion a6042n has a slot for it. Do you have a picture you can circle the slot so I'll know where it is on the mother board? And do i disable the current card before or after I install the new one? You can email me at bain.j@att.net Thanks a million, James

Will I need to disable the current graphics card before installing new one? Sorry I'm a bit new to this. Thanks for any details you can offer.

Hi bain_j,

your motherboard has a slot for this. I have encircled the slot on the picture I have attached. Also I checked and the current Power Supply that came in with your HP Pavilion will not be able to support the card. You would need to get a new power supply unit preferably around 600 watts and with a PCIE 6-pin power. I hope this helps. Please let me know.

Will I need to disable the current card before installing the new graphics card? Any details would be welcomed. Thanks everyone.

    Hi Bain_j

That's the thing. sometimes these newer onboard graphics are auto detect they should detect the video card automatically. But it wouldn't hurt maybe to turn off or disable the onboard graphics before installing the gtx550.

As long as it says pci express for the interface on the graphics card the Geforce GTX 550 Ti will work fine the PCI Express connector will look like this
