when your mower is on an incline the oil in the crankcase flows to either side depending the angle, I would recommend checking oil levels, clunking sounds are usually metal on metal, also never mow on an incline without thinking about mower damage. skip hills if at all possible., check fluid levels, check spark plug for gummed up residue , check gas line filter for water.
You can use regular SAE 30 weight oil from the auto parts store. If you use multi-viscosity, make sure it is synthetic, otherwise use straight SAE30 oil.
You must be sitting on the seat to start the unit and.... make sure the engine oil is serviced properly. If the oil level is low the low oil level sensor will ground out the ignition and it will not start. (no spark) If you have a choke... you must use the choke on a cold engine. This is just the basics. If your sure the engine is full of oil and it still will not start have someone help you with a spark test. The spark test is done with the spark plug wire disconnected from the spark plug or the spark plug removed. It is hard to do this test alone as you must be sitting on the seat to get spark. Yes. The oil reserve has probably become contaminated with fuel. Check the oil level, if it is over full change the oil and fill to the correct level. Also fit an inline fuel tap and turn the tap off when the mower is not in use. This will prevent a repeat of the problem. Regards Phil.
Check underneath the mower at the bottom of the engine's crankcase and see if there is a possible plug of any type there. Be sure you lift the mower the correct way when tipping , typically with the control handles going down towards ground...not on its side.
did you check oil level . what happens is the carb float sticks and dumps gas into the motor crank with the oil,(oil will smell like gas) to much oil = smoke.(rebuild carb change oil). IF this is a bad or weak motor use STP OIL treatment the thick stuff and use the whole can when you do your oil change . this will help you sneak a year or two more out of a bad motor
Not very many are the type you need to add oil to gas, on the mower look for a small cap at the bottom base of the mower's engine you may need a pair of pliers to turn it counter clockwise to remove don;t add too much just about one cup shoul do it. if you can't find it then it may be the typr with the screw on cap that is higher up look for a knob at the top part of the mowwe rthere is only two and there should be some type of writing either the type of oil or the word oil filler on it.
What he should do is put Zoomspout oil in the motor. It is for this type motor. It is high temp resistance and non flammable. anAy hardware store has this for a cupla bucks.
