SOURCE: I have a toro 8-25 rear engine rider model 56172

None of the numbers you supplied match any info on the toro.com web site. Check the numbers and then see if toro has any info for you.

That said, it sounds like you connected to the wrong relay terminal. Here is how you want it connected:
The battery (and alternator) connect to one of the large terminals on the relay. The starter connects to the other large terminal. The start switch connects to the small terminal on the relay. The idea being that the small current connected to the small terminal turns on the relay which connects the large battery current to the starter.

Obviously there is more to the wiring than just that, but you didn't ask about the rest...

SOURCE: John Deere LA145 B&S 22Horsepower engine starting and running

You may simply need a new fuel cap, vacuum in the tank will rob your fuel and stall it engine, try taking off the fuel cap and see how it runs.If this does not help you may need a new fuel pump, which runs off of crank case pressure and should take over from the choke once the tractor has started.

With everything you have done only 2 things come to mind.
1) Safety switch open or not functioning.
2) Engine seized.

John deere la145 wont turn over

Make sure the blades are turned off. If so, turn them on and off a few times to cycle the switch and see if it starts. If not, you'll have to start from the batteries and go to the fuse and check for power to and through the keyswitch until you find the place power is lost. Do you have a 12 volt test light?
The battery will need to be tested with a volt meter that will tell you how much voltage is available. The fact that it can light up a continuity tester will still have you guessing whether it has enough voltage to operate the starter.

There are several safety switches such as under the seat, blade engagement, neutral switch....all must be in working order and the lever in the proper position to get fire to the starter.

Why won't the starter motor engage?

Disconnect both ends of the wire and clean them with sandpaper. Also clean the battery (+ and -) starter and relay terminals. You may need to replace the relay.

John Deere Starter Solenoid Kit AM138497

First make sure the negative battery cable is making good contact on the frame or what ever part of the mower it is connected to. Make sure both battery cables are clean and not corroded and are tight. Then try to start the mower. If it works, fine. If not then you will bypass the solenoid and see if the starter turns the engine. To bypass the solenoid take a car jumper cable and connect one clamp to the terminal on the solenoid that goes to the battery ( see the diagrams in the links above) Turn the ignition switch to the on position. Take the other end of the same color of the jumper cable (say you'll use the red clamps) and touch the clamp to the other large terminal on the solenoid, which goes to the starter. If the starter turns the engine, then you know the starter is good and that the solenoid is bad. If the starter does not turn the engine then the starter is bad. make sure you DO NOT touch the jumper cable to the starter case or any other ground.

John deere LA145 manual

When I start the engine the mower blades start to turn. The blades turn as long as the engine is running. The PTO does not stop the blades from turning even when I stand up off the seat or when I go in reverse. What should I look for to fix this problem. I have a LA145 mower, 48" cut, bought in 2010. Thanks for your time & help.

Try replacing the starter solenoid. If that doesn't do it, try replacing the whole starter.

I have a John Deere LA145. It has 50 hours on it. I mowed the yard with it and then it wouldn't back up with the blades engaged and the rio button pushed. I turned off the PTO button and backed

With everything you said I never heard you say you checked the oil or put in oil Hope it didn't run tight on you.I'm not sure if your model has one but some also have safety switches under the clutch pedal . If not have you checked the hydrostatic oil im not sure if your is hydro but that could also keep it from shifting in gear and possibly keep it from starting to protect transmission. Just some ideas good luck

There are 3 models of the LA145. Hopefully this is the correct diagram. The deck belt routing appears to be the same on all 3 models.

You need to instal a starter relay kit.Deere part # AM107421.Mount it down by the starter, purple wire that goes to starter will now be plugged in to the relay, red wire to hot side of starter, black wire to a ground point, purple wire that is a part of new relay can now be plugged in to the starter.its very easy to install and fixes nearly 100% of clicking starter.
