Whirlpool schott ceran induction plate doesn't get hot

magnetic gradeI have a SCHOTT Ceran glass ceramic cooktop as well, and soon realized that induction cooktops like this require that your metal cookware be in contact with the surface for them to heat up. Best cookware:
  • Cast iron pans
  • Any black metal pans
  • Stainless steel pans, if base is magnetic grade (magnet sticks to bottom)

Hot plates not heating up

Hi kennycrocket,

You might be looking at dead plates or faulty regulators. I'd suggest lifting the cooktop of, and turning it over. Then very carefully, while still on at the main, testing at the power points with a multimeter.

First test incoming power to the regulators (The devices found under the knobs), then testing power to the plates. If power gets to the regulators, but not to the plates - The faulty part is the regulators. If however power goes to the regulator as well as the plates, then the plates are faulty.

Kind Regards

Kenmore "Hot Surface" light

hot surface light is turned on by a auxiliary switch across the plate. it is possible that the switch has stuck in the closed position. it is also possible that the plate is not turning off. feel the plate and check if it is at all warm. if not, then the auxialuary switch is stuck closed. not dangerous. to fix means replacing the limiter which is the rod you can see across the plate. sometimes you can only get the complete plate with limiter which is a bit pricey

Cooktop light stays on when cool

the "hot top" indicator lamp is switched by a contact on the plate cut-out. sometimes this cut-out is available as a separate part but often must fit complete plate. by plate i mean the bit that gets hot!
