My HD TV is no longer showing a clear picture

The picture is terrible lately on my HD TV. When a dark scene comes up it glows blue and you can't hardly see anything that is going on. The picture is also cloudy looking and not very clear at all and there is no difference between my HD channels and my regular channels. Could this be something as easy as the cables?? or is the TV going out?

Sure sounds like the CRT fluid is cloudy and needs to be replaced.
If its not the fluid the convergence chips are bad.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence My HD TV is no longer showing a clear picture - 2c07611.pngad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

How do I lighten a dark picture

Hi Richard,
Please try reducing the contrast a little and increasing the brightness till the dark shots are clear. Please also check the back light setting. It should not be too low. This should make all the dark scenes clearly visible if it only a setting problem. In case the overall brightness has reduced, please consult a local TV Tech.

Either the TCON board or the LCD panel has failed. Start by replacing the TCON board. If the problem persists, the panel is bad and the cost to replace it would be too high.

Delay in lighting from dark to light scenes and then back.

Look for auto-contrast or something. Turn it off. Picture will be steady. I hate this feature in most flat panel tv's and it's not needed. You may have to set static contrast after that.

Red vertical lines on right side of LED TV set

It is likely the main board that processes all signal to and from the display panel (entire front screen unit).

It is also possible it is the display panel itself which is fatal.

AOC PD4264 Screen fault

Extremely blue color temperature that cannot be adjusted; some false-contouring artifacts in dark scenes; no picture-in-picture; limited connectivity with just one DVI and no HDMI inputs.
If use as a TV monitor:
The number of colors you can display is controlled by the video card installed in your computer. In order to display more than 16 colors, the proper video card driver must be installed. Contact your computer or video card manufacturer to obtain the latest driver from them.
If you are watching standard-definition or Cable/RF signal on an HDTV, the picture may appear to be of poor quality. This is because the TV is designed for viewing HD or at least digital content. Your best bet would be to upgrade to a Dish Network HD receiver and connect it to the TV with an HDMI cable. Similarly inputting analog signal to TV from your DVD player will not appear to be of great quality. A newer DVD player would most likely have component video output which would look much better. To get even greater quality, an upconverting DVD player connected with an HDMI cable would look the best. You could also upgrade to a Blu-ray disc player, which is capable of playing HD Blu-ray discs as well as DVD's at higher resolution. A less expensive choice could also be a streaming media box. I believe there may be another setting, it has to do with auto contrast which can make the TV seems to have high contrast ratio but sometime it does not work right, espically on the scene with dark sky with stars, someitme it will will reduce the brightness to make black real black and you can loger see the stars in the scene. I forget the name of this setting, it may be in the user manual. Do you see that in TV HD mode in other movies with a lot of dark scenes?
