Question about Kenmore Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have an old (1993) Kenmore microwave--model number: 5658904690. The microwave works perfectly fine and I've never had any problems, until the other day. I was washing the glass turntable plate and it slipped out of my hands and shattered on the floor. I really don't want to have to replace my microwave. Does anyone know of any place that sells just the plate. I've found some sites, but can't find the turntable plate for my model. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kim

I would tour the Car boot, garage sales etc. A glass dish should be available at a store that sells microwave ovens.

I'd like to find a factory replacement for my specific model. Does anyone know how to go about finding the specific part number that I'm trying to replace or of any parts websites that might be helpful. I've come across several so far, but they're all pretty much dead ends.

    Have you looked at ebay?

I would say that unless there is a plate in an identical model available at a car boot sale or garage sale then there may possibly be a plate made by Kenmore that will fit. Try contacting Kenmore or one of their agents, I suspect you probably have already done that, as part numbers do move with different models.
Spare parts only have to be available for up to 7 years from end of production, so I doubt there will be a new original spare part.
    Good luck.

My still fairly new kenmore 1000 watt microwave appears to be operating fine but doesnt heat. What might be the problem?

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

Post a new help request with the answers to these questions as well as the full model number from the tag on or in the unit.

Kenmore Ultra Wave microwave Model # 665.61652 Quit Working

There are fuses in the unit but why did they go bad? something else has to go bad to cause the fuse to blow, unless the fuse got old or had bad connections at the fuse holder. Can try a new fuse then run and see if it works. Just don't run it empty, just put a container of water in it to test. If it works check all connections and see if any are loose or browned like it has been hot. That's where your problem will be.

Microwave won't heat for first minute - starts working normally after that.

The magnetron may be defective. You can replace the magnetron, there is no other possibility.

I've got a badly scratched touchpad membrance from abrasive sponge - lesson learned the hard way. Anyways, how do I replace the touch pad membrane on a Kenmore Microwave Model # 721.80049700? I&

I am not familiar with that specific model but typically touch pads either come as an assembly or as just the membrane that has a peel off paper on the back that covers a sticky layer that sticks onto the metal frame inside your unit. If that is the case, you have to remove the old touch pad and take a screw driver or a knife and start at one end and lift it off of the frame, once peeled off, clean the metal frame with laquer thinner to remove the old adhesive, make sure it is dried completely and then take off the protective paper of the new pad and stick it to the frame. If it is a plastic frame you CANNOT use a solvent like laquer thinner as it will melt the plastic frame and destroy it. On those I tend to just drag a razor blade across the surface until I feel it is clean enough to mount the new one. You could use alcohol to clean it. Or possibly mineral spirits. You jsut want it to be perfectly clean and grease free

I have a 21y/o full sized Kenmore 700w microwave that I want to keep. Worked fine until this morning. Everything works except the heat.

Sadly Kenmore only offers parts for 10 years. The truth is a new microwave for 50 dollars will be much more energy efficient than your 21 yr. old model

Same thing happened to us. We just came back from Sears, where we bought another. Just for giggles, my wife suggested unplugging the old one and plugging it back in again. It works now. New one's going back to the store.

Kenmore microwave

If this has a controller that runs a microwave and an oven, then the problem F2 means a temperature related fault such as a bad temp sensor / thermostat or a defect in the control board. If it's just a microwave, then the problem is likely a failing keypad. In many cases, those can be replaced economically. If you repost with your exact model number (62622 is not a complete model number) then we can advise you further and more specifically.
