Question about Whirlpool AWOE8748 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Whirlpool AWO / D4213671, no 859248910000 mostly does not go to hi spinning RPM but sometimes it does. Service technician means there is a wromg motor, however I doubt the motor could be sometimes good and mostly not. Possibly some sensor prevents the machine to run high RPM

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
It does sound as if the motor requires replacement. It is not uncommon to find that the brushes are worn sufficiently for them to not make perfect contact with the commutator at the higher speeds- bouncing and sparking. Now, a word or two of advice from this retired Englishman in SW France. It might be suggested that just the brushes on the motor want changing; experience (of others) suggests that they may only last months rather than many years UNLESS the motor itself is refurbished. Refurbishment includes skimming the commutator on which the brushes run. Without skimming the brushes do not sit cleanly on the commutator (like the worn ones!), often causing excessive sparking and excessive wear on BOTH. Alternately a new motor! I changed the motor on our 19+ year-old Bosch at a cost of GBP250 ;-0(
The choice of course is entirely up to you- but do not forget that it is not an uncommon fault, especially if the washer is not exactly new. Others I have given this advice to have chosen new brushes and I don't blame them!
Good luck,
John C

Testimonial: "The maschine is 3yr old.Technician means more likely is there is current leakage from windings to earh which is detected by MCU and spinning blocked."

Dear John, your advice was very helpfull. What do you think is more likely, the brushes or the current leakage detected by MCU? Can you advice type of motor and type of brushes? Will refurbishment including skimming help? The machine is model 6 sense. Our service technician says frequent failures of this nature are common on this model, even on relatively new machines.

Additional comment. The technician says there was not much sparking in commutator on norma run. He says new type of motor has inferior quality and frequent faults. Any possibility ti repair the motor? New motor costs more than half price of new washing machine. Incredible.

    Hi again,
I'm sure the technician has more experience than I have on your washer type ;-0)
If it is current leakage it's a new motor anyway as the old one would have to be completely dismantled, the windings unwound and then new windings wound back on- almost the equivalent of the work on a new motor. I have to accept his comment about the quality of new motors although the Bosch one I replaced on our machine is exactly the same as the old one and expected to last as long-19+ years! Now I know how young the washer is, I would not have expected the brushes to have worn, not unless the washer was in use almost 24/7! I think you will find that you can only purchase a replacement motor from the same manufacturer. I would ask the technician if he advises a change of motor on the other ones he has dealt with. At least he should give you some sort of guarantee. I'm really sorry that I cannot really help you at this point ;-0(
    Good luck, John C

Hi again, many thanks. The quality problem is with Whirpool people. Possibly using ceap, low quality motors they want to improve (profits) on sales of new machines and of ridiculously expensive spare parts. But I will newer buy any Whirlpool product any more. This is the best defense against such pratices

    I agree!
