How do you check the lid switch? Is that why it starts beeping and the lights light up?

  • lcernuch Mar 23, 2011

Ok how do you check the lid switch and is that why it beeps and the lights come on?

  • lcernuch Mar 23, 2011

I took the lid off but did not see any wires. What wires?

  • lcernuch Mar 23, 2011

Yes Daniel told me to take the lid off and connect two wires to test it but like I told him I didnt see two wires. Can you please help me? From my understanding he said it was my lid switch. How do I test it also if that is the problem how do I order a new one and how much does it cost? When it stops it starts beeping and three lights come on the wash, rinse, and spin lights light up.

    Hi.

The machine does not have door switch. It has a door lock motor that will return error on the electronic control if faulty. You do not jump the lock motor. The lock motor is tested running a diagnostic cycle, or Ohming the motor with a multimeter.
Your problem is unlikely the lock motor, as you will get an error message.
The lock motor is accessed removing the top panel, but that is not what you need to do.
Here a diagram showing the lid lock as nr.38:

Your troubleshooting will start from drain system and diagnostic cycle.

Undo the display panel. It is held by screws and has clips in the front part. Lift it carefully to not damage the wires and connectors or the electronic modules. Inside you should find tucked an envelope with the tech sheet. You can do the diagnostic described in the tech sheet.
    Here the display assembly:

If the diagnostic do not help finding the fault, or if the tech sheet is missing, start testing from the drain system.

The first thing to test is the drain hose at the back. Check the height of the standpipe. It must be between 34'' and 47'', and must extend no more than 20mm from the end of the guide, or you get siphoning, which mean the drain water getting back to the pump, and drain never ending (hence no spin).

Check the drain pump. This is located at the bottom of the appliance on one side. Fisher and Paykel usually do not have access door for the pump. The pump is reached from underneath the appliance. Once there disconnect the hoses connected to the pump, and remove blockage if any. Be prepared to collect water. Here the pump, as part 17:

Another part that can cause no spin is the pressure sensor. Its input is used to start spin cycle. The pressure sensor is connected to a thin rubber hose extending inside the tub. Clean pressure hose, sensor and pressure chamber. Pressure hose is nr.16 in diagram below:

In some case this washers may give no spin because of balancing problems. That is quite unlikely in your case because balancing problems prompt an error message. Ensure that the machine is at level.

Here also a general article that I wrote about no-spin problem: If you have no spin there may be different reasons behind the problem...
The article is detailed, but better if you refer to my solution here, as it is tailored for your F&P model.

Here the full schematics for this top loader.

    Regards.

Hi

If nothing is clogged and the drain pump seems to be working fine, then the issue is with the lid switch assembly that is bad and should be replaced. The unit is filling fine and will wash fine so the motor seems to be fine, but before starting the spin cycle the control receives a signal that the lid is not closed as the lid switch is bad and so won't start to spin. You can also check the lid switch for continuity before replacing. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

The lid is located on the hinges, you can remove it and then connect its two wires together if the washer works then replace the switch

Yes that is why it beeps, you will have to check it with a voltmeter....if you dont want to do it the previous way that I told you

Lid switch will cost you around $15, if you are not comfortable with these kind of repair then why not contact a tech. as doing something yourself that you don't know about is not a good repair.

If you can hear the pump running and the water isn't draining then you need to clear out the drain pump. You do this by tilting the machine back as far as you can so you can access the underneath. You will see the small drain pump. Have a basin ready to catch any water that comes out when remove the pump which is only held in by 1 or 2 screws and twisted out or pulled out. If its clear then remove the hose that goes from the pump to tub. Quite often its a sock or something stuck. Then re-assemble and try filling with small amount of water and selecting a drain cycle or spin cycle if drain cycle not available. If the pump isn't running at all then you will need to replace the pump, not expensive. Hope this helps

Spinning cycle

Keeping in mind that the soap & bleach gets dispensed into your wash on the second to last rinse cycle and that most all rinse cycles are in cold water. Is your cold water valve screen plugged causing your washer to rinse poorly? Are you using the HE detergent? If not maybe the washer is sudsing up to much and having a hard time rinsing all the suds and bleach out and leaving the clothes soapy.

Fill the washer up with no clothes in it on a cold/cold wash setting does it take a long time to fill the washer up? Also when it is full and agitating is there suds in the washer?

Last suggestion is if the drain is hose is a lot higher than the top of the washer it might have a hard time draining out all of the soap water before the next load

My whirlpool duet will go through full wash cycle and when it get to rinse it does full rinse but light for spin does not go on and it doesn't spin it stays in spin cycle (no light on) but it does not...

Hi

This issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

Won't spin after wash cycle or rinse cycle

CHECK THE FOLLOWING---

1. Clogged drain line or water pump
Check to see if there's something stuck inside the pump or the drain hose connected to the pump (pump is usually located at the bottom and towards the back of the washing machine).

2. Water Pump
If the drain line isn't clogged, you may have a problem with the water pump such as a frozen pulley or a broken impeller. If that's the case replace the water pump. Note: if you have a belt driven washer, check the belt(s) for cracks, as this would be a perfect time to replace the belt(s) if needed.

Washer wont drain or spin

It sounmds like there is a clog in the pump. If the washer won't drain, it will never spin. Remove the front panel by sliding a putty knife between the top and the front panel. The pump is located on the right side as you face the machine. Unplug the machine and be prepared to catch the onslaught of water as you remove the hoses. The pump may be clogged as you will see once you rmove the hoses. If so, clean it out and test. If the pump is bound and will not move it may need to be replaced.

SPIN

If the water has not drained away, then it will not spin.
If it has a filter then check that.
Other possibility is worn brushes in the motor, make sure it is not on a rinse hold sequence..
Check belt has not come off.
There are other possibilitys, but check these first.
Plz leave feedback.
