Sand in your filter or sand in your pool? A common mistake when installing these is not to fill them half way with water prior to filling the tank with sand. Failure to do so often leads to cracks in the lateral assembly and sand in the pool. If that is the case you'll need a new lateral assembly, part #SX210DA. Depending on how long ago it was installed and who installed it you may be able to get the part under warranty. If not it runs about $45.

The filter takes 200# of sand. Your product tag should confirm this with a statement of something like "media required: 200#" or something similar.

Hayward pro series 220 not working. On filter mode continuously and pressure never goes up. Return pressure stays strong. water stays cloudy. I have changed sand, down pipe and now the multiport. Basi

This is not an uncommon situation for sand filters(persistent or slow to clear cloudiness). Mostly, these days , pumps are oversized for filter flow rates resulting in water being ramrodded through sand bed. The first thing to do is balance the water. If chlorine not present, double the suggested dosage. We are also assuming that the m.port valve has not been disassembled. the best sand to use is a #20 or #2 white quartzite. If problems persist , then consider filter aiding media to help the sand bed trap finer particles.

he Tires
  • Change your tires to paddle tires or sand tires. These are available at most motorcycle shops or online retailers. These tires enable you to push and stay on top of the sand, giving you traction where normal tires would not work.
The Air Filter
  • Use a heavily oiled air filter with a sock protector around the outside. This provides extra protection where fine sand particles could bypass your air filter, and enter your engine causing significant damage. Clean and oil your filter frequently when riding in the sand.

The Fuel Filter
  • Use an in-line fuel filter or, if you already have one, change it frequently. This will keep fine debris from the sand from entering the engine through the fuel system.

When backwashing...sand discharges out backwash hose..

A little sand in backwash is not uncommon. Many packaged sand filter systems use pumps whose flow rates greatly exceed the flow capacity of the filter.(the more horsepower the better, right? - Wrong) If this occurs only during back flush the the pump is too strong or the sand level is above the beginning of the rounded top of tank. The sand level will eventually correct itself.

How much sand does a hayward pro series sand filter require

A 24" (width of tank) is 300#
A30" is 350#
A36" is 700#
All are #20 silica and you can substute 3/8" pea gravel for up to 1/3 of sand in any of them. Rock goes in first then sand on top. This will improve your flow and extend the life of your sand.

I changed my sand in the filter last month, when I opened up the pool it was full of green algae, the filter is working but I haven't had to backflush since 2 days ago. The water is still extremely cloudy...

If the water is beginning to clear up, it doesn't sound like you have done anything wrong. You might just need to let your pool filter keep working. I would
a) make sure that your pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels are correct. An inproper balance of chemicals might be causing the cloudyness.
b) Be sure Vari-Flo valve is set on “Filter” position.
c) Operate filter for longer periods.
d) Make sure that the flow rate through filter is sufficient.
e) Continue to backwash frequently.
Try this for a few days and let us know if you still don't notice a change.

Lots of sand? You may have a broken lateral in your filter.

To repair, you will have to remove all the sand from the tank to physically inspect.

Might you have changed the sand this year? (top 1/3 needed to be changed every 3 to 5 years normally) If you changed the sand ... did you put water in the filter tank first? If not ... there is a good possibility you broke a lateral (a small pipe with slits in it) when you put the sand into the filter.

It could be that you have too much sand in the filter. Check the owners manual for the clearance - top of sand to top of filter.

CLOUDY WATER

I too have this problem after treatment for algae, especially if I got a day or two without running the pump, it starts to get mildly green. After adding the algaecide, it kills the algae, but leaves what I call the white dead floating...it takes several days for this to phase out.

If you aren't already doing so, put 3" tablets in the pump basket housing, that helps dramatically. Put a pair of knee-high pantyhose (one inside the other), on the return inside the pool. (you will be amazed what it catches after a few days). Also you can try some "clarifier" to help clear up the cloudiness.

I'm no pool expert, but have dealt with the cloudiness myself. Through trial and error, have learned that cloudy water doesn't necessary mean dirty water. It will clear within a day or two if you are keeping stabilizer tablets in pump basket and using shock once a week. And run the pump for about 8-12 hours a day, it will clear up quicker. And to me, using the pantyhose is an extra-filter and it catches the 'gunk' that the sand in the filter isn't catching. (it can't possibly get everything). Be sure to backwash your pump frequently too.

Hope this helps at least some. Good luck!

I own a whirlpool gold dryer about 4 years old. I empty the lint catcher frequently. I noticed however, that sand has accumulated inside the dryer, I hear the sound when the dryer starts tumbling. How...

not as hard as it will sound here we go
remove the lint filter
remove the 2 phillips screws at the filter housing top you will see these screws after you have pulled out the lint filter
unplug the dryer
remove the back panel
on the left side is the lint filter housing it is held in place with 4 1/4 inch screws remove them
lift up on the filter housing and pull forward you will find the sand inside the filter housing use a vac to **** it out and reassemble the dryer, no more sand
