Yes this sounds like you have a bad bearing that connects the inner and outter tubs. this job to do yourself takes about 4-5 hours in parts alone might run you about 90-130 on the other hand if you have a technician come with the labor charge included it would cost 450-600 depending on the unit and if the unit was a front loader these tend to be more expensive on repairs. if you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to help others in similar situations in the future I await your reply Thanks Rick

this is going to be a short guide to a complete tear down of the maytag neptune front loader you would first take off the rear three screws and then slide the top lid backwards after you do this remove the top panel the next step would be to loosen the screws and disconnect the wires for the main control this comes off as one piece as well after loosening the screws and unclipping all the plug in connectors for the control you would then remove the control. next you would remove the rubber boot that hooks the tub to the outter frame there is a metal ring that goes around the frame piece that you use a flat screwdriver towards the bottom to pry the ring up and then shim the ring off in a clockwise direction. unseat the rubber boot from the frame after you have removed the ring. Next you would remove the screws on the top that were hidden by the control think its like 4-5 screws and there should also be 3 located down the bottom and any screws that are on the inside of the door area as well this way the whole front panel can be taken off some neptunes dont have screws down the bottom they have clips that the bottom seats into. after removing the entire front of the machine this tear down i am is for a front load washer i am assuming you have a front load and not one of the older top load units at this time although you still havent sent me the model number of your machine so that i may provide you a schematic I await your reply Thanks Rick

Hi,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

My washer has recently started thumping and banging during the spin cycle. I thought it was uneven weight distribution, but it does it every spin now. And when the spinning slows down it has started...

Hi, . according to your washer problem i m writing solution ,please read and follow it:-
  1. Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
  2. check out this following options one by one to locate the fault in your machine.
  3. 1)Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.2)Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. (When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.)3)Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub.4)Clear thewater pumpfrom obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water.5)Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers.6)Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.

My maytag model no.mav4755aww makes a whinning sound at the beginning of the spin cycle

Hi
Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.Since you hear whining it means that the bearing is damaged and the seals on bearing are gone too so it rotates without lubricant. It might be possible to hear whining while you rotate empty drum manually...
Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.
Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing. Then replacing the bearing is suggested.

Could be a loose belt, or drum bearings,or ( drum rollers if your model is so equiped) In my mind machine would be worth repair when needed.

Maytag washing machine repair

The water pump may be going bad...Yes it probably is a bearing. Take the belt loose and try turning each pully until you find one that makes noise or is hard to turn. Pump and motor should both spin very easily with out noise.
