Question about Williams 6508732 Gas Heater

1 Answer

Williams direct vent model1403612 I can"t keep the flame going on the pilot. I can ignite it, and it gets gas as long as you hold the button in on the gas valve. What part do you think isn't working? Where can I get parts on line if you do have a fix for this?

Sounds like the Thermocouple or Thermopile has failed and will need to be replaced. You may also need to clean the pilot orifice. If you still have your Owners Manual, you can look up the part number and order it according to the instructions in the Owners Manual.

The pilot goes out when the heater cycles

The thermocouple is not working correctly. sometimes you can clean the soot build up from it and it will work again. sometimes they just need replacing. the thermocouple is what the pilot light flame heats up when you turn on the heater. when the thermocouple gets hot it sends a 20 to 60 millivolt signal to the gas valve to activate the gas flow to the main burner.

Napoleon Fireplace propane Pilot won't light main burner even though gas flows in?

  • I'm going to assume your fireplace has a pilot light.
  • Follow the little holes in the burner that lead to the pilot light.
  • Make sure the pilot flame is pointing directly at the closest burner hole. (adjust if necessary).
  • Often, you will need to sprinkle a layer of "glowing embers" in this area. The embers will help the gas travel to the pilot light and ignite.
  • Always start your propane appliance on "High" never "Low". Cold propane likes to drop to the bottom of the firebox and accumulate until it reaches the pilot (this is called delayed ignition). Keeping it on "high" will help the fuel travel over to the pilot without buildup.

I'm having the same exact problem... At first we thought was the vent... but the way the flames goes out... it seems that there is "not enough oxygen" more than "blown out by the wind"... right after both main & pilot goes out, I can't even light any external flame inside the chamber... and it doesn't feel like the outside cold air coming in... it just feel like there is some sort of gas in the chamber that's so strong, it prevents flame... and the only thing I can think of is that it doesn't have enough oxygen, but too much natural gas, and flame can't sustain.

The pilot light is going out intermittently for no reason. williams heater is model 6508732

There's either a problem with the gas controller, flame sensor, or gas flow. the flame sensor is a small metal probe that get hot from a flame. Turn the gas control completely off, unplug it if applicable, and gently clean the pilot nozzle with a toothpick or something. If the flame sensor bulb is on a bendy wire, make sure the probe is positioned so it'll get heated by the flame.

Gas flows to long before igniting.

try cleaning the crossovers between the burners. Also look closely at the flame and make sure that the burner is firing all the way to the pilot. Sometimes its just a few little holes that vent a little gas to give the flame a path to follow will be stopped up and cause the condition you describe

Pilot light on but heater won't come on when I turn up the thermostat

Williams heaters have a manual reset for the spill safety switch. If the heater is not venting properly it will trip this switch and shut off main burner function. The switch is on the left side of the cover inside the small vent. You can use a screwdriver to push the button back in. If the heater then works you will need to get the vent inspected to make sure it is connected properly and there is no blockage.

Unable To Keep Pilot Light Lit!

I have a Williams top vent gravity wall furnace (model 5009622) and I had the same problem. I had to take the cover off the furnace -- screw on top and two at the bottom (open the access door and there is one screw on each side) to get to the reset button for the vent safety shutoff system. On my furnace it's on the left side toward the top of the unit. I pressed the little red reset button and it's been working ever since. If your furnace is properly installed and doesn't have bird's nest in the chimney, it should work fine. Good luck!
