Question about Iomega (34959) 500 GB USB 20 Hard Drive

1 Answer

I have a Iomega 500 Gb USB 2.0 Hard Drive, and after moving a file, if I try to rename it, copy, whatever, Windows Explorer tells me that access is denied, and to make sure the file isn't in use, or the disk is copy protected. Plus, I don't seem to be able to access the file as well. \r\n I'm running Windows XP, and the drive is NTFS format.

nope... didn't help much at all. Still having the issue. Plus, I don't seem to be able to even safely remove the drive after trying to access one of the troubled files... Thanks anyway =)

Try to acces HD with paragon hard disk manager resque disk (you must boot from this cd). You have an option there to copy files. Backup all your files if you see them and format hard drive then copy all your data back. It works several times for me.

You plug it in the USB, wait for it to be detected and to appear in My Computer then you just manually copy all your personal files to it.

Will windows 7 suport this hard drive

Hello,

Yes Windows 7 will support this drive but if it was formatted using either a Mac or an older version of windows it will tell you it needs to format the drive. If it was formatted with an older version of Windows simply dismiss the warning and do not allow it to format the drive. If it was formatted with a Mac, then you will need to reformat it before it will work on a PC but you will want to copy everything off the drive before formatting it as formatting will destroy the files currently saved on the drive.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

How do I use the Hitachi ST/500 GB?

Firstly, you needed to tell us that this is an external hard drive, otherwise, how do we know..
Next, this drive plugs into a USB port where it will be detected by the operating system and added as another hard drive in your "my computer" and "windows explorer" listings.
Once the drive is added, simply drag whatever files you wish to place on the drive, onto the drive listing to copy them to the drive.
You can also use the "send to" menu item where the drive will also be listed.
select the file by right clicking on it, select send to then select the drive in the list that appears, easy..
dont place any operating system or everyday files onto the drive except for backup purposes.

Iomega 500 gb hard drive: large file transfers

The default format for the IOMega drive is FAT32. This format will work on all versions of Windows, as well as Mac OS9 and above. Unfortunately, FAT32 can't handle files larger than 4gigs. If you want to use larger files, you're going to have to remove all the files from your IOMega drive and use your computer to format it to NTFS (Windows 2000/XP/Vista) or HFS+ (Mac OS9/X).

Consult your owner's manual for specific details.
