Where to purchase belts

Independent sewing and vacuum, or sew & vac stores, typically carry a wide selection of belts. Be sure to know your model number of your vacuum, even if you have the old belt, as they stretch considerably and can be difficult to match an old belt with a new one.

Brush not turning and there is a smell

Your belt has most likely burned in half, this happens from an object getting caught in the brush roll, a brush roll that does not shin freely i.e. debris under the end caps or usually and old stretched out belt that has been slipping; belts can stretch out in 6 months whether you use the vacuum or not.
Remove the brush roll and old belt, inspect for damage, clean out the area and instal an new belt or the same brand and type. It should be good as new.

The belt had come off my dyson DC04 which explained the loss of suction. I put it back on but now it's making a terrible noise and a burning smell. The belt is very hot as well as the spindle and bits...

Replace the belt with a new one. Once it's damaged it will never work properly again. Make sure that all traces of the old belt are removed before fitting the new one.

Also check that the brush bar rotates freely when the belt has been removed. If not, remove it and clear out any hair, cotton or other debris which is preventing it from rotating freely.

I have no owners manual and need to replace the belt on a Hoover powermax model #:U5242-930 can you help thanks Bab

I don't see this unit on the Hoover support site. However other Powermax vacuums come up in the search for manuals: http://www.hoover.com/CustomerService/manuals/Default.aspx .

Most of the units have very similar belt replacement procedures. First unplug the vacuum. Then press the handle release lever and place the handle in the low position. Next remove the hood by turning the two slots either side of the hood with a coin. Rotate the hood towards the front of the unit and remove it. Then remove the agitator brush roll and the old belt. Discard the old belt.

With the lettering to the outside, slide the new belt over the motor pulley. (The old belt should have been on the pulley. If the belt broke and isn't in place, look for it on the right as you look at the front of the vacuum above the agitator brush roller's position.) Slide the agitator brush roller through the belt and place the belt in the belt guide on the roller. Grasp the agitator and put it into position. Fit it into the rectangular slot on the left. Then pull it into position on the right side of the vacuum. Check if the agitator and the belt turn freely and that the belt isn't pinched between the agitator and the bottom of the unit. Replace the hood by aligning the tabs with the slots on the base. Then turn the coin slots to secure the hood.

I hope this helps.

The power drive belt of my hoover u3305-030 vacuum keeps falling off, what am I doing wrong?

Hello
One possible solution to your problem is you have the wrong size belt. Check your belt, it should have a letter on it, if it is old, it may be stretched out. Check in your owner's manual, near the belt area, or on the inside of any cover for the correct belt size(which is a letter). Be sure to check that you have the correct size and if not or if it is old, go to your local home depot($1.89+tax for Hoover Model belts) or any other store you know provides vaccuum belts, and purchase a replacement belt.

Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate

Brush will not spin any longer

If the brush won't spin at all, it's either the drive belt or the roller beater brush is clogged. Pet hair can quickly clog a vacuum. Turn the unit over and see if the brush will rotate by hand. If yes, it's probably the belt. Also look for debris and clear as much out as possible. You may have to remove the bottom plate and clean the bottom of the unit out. If you do have to go that far, it would be best to replace the drive belt and thoroughly clean the vacuum.

I cant get the power brush to work is there a reset button? the vacuum is only 2 months old dirt devil 12amp bagless featherlite

can you turn the brush by hand? if it turns real freely the belt is broke or the brush siezed up make sure there isn't any carpet strans wrapped around the ends of the brush otherwise the brush won't turn.if its the belt make sure you clean the motor shaft before you put on the new belt, the old rubber from the old belt will make the new belt run unevevly and break again..good luck

Hoover Upright...OLD vacuum, broken belt

The rod must be your brush roll. it should just pull out, Have you removed the cover over the brush roll? When you do get the brush roll out, turnb the ends and make sure they turn freely, if nit, replace it also.

Brushes not going round

The brushes on my dyson have stopped going round. I have checked it and they move freely by hand. The belt is intact. What could the problem be? The Hoover is about 10 to 12 years old.
My dyson is a dc04

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
One of the main problems with vacuums are that the flat belts on the vacuums stretch and should be changed every 4 to 6 months or 3 or 4 times a year – you can tell by taking off the belt or belts on the vacuums and compare them to the old belts on the vacuum the new belts will fix inside of the old belts and you will be able to see the difference on how much they have stretched – if the belt is a geared belt – they stretch as well but should be changed about one a year – the cost is not that expensive and you cleaning will improve almost double – this also applies for the Dyson DC04 and the Hoover vacuum as well – some of the Hoover vacuums have two (2) belts and they both should be changed @ the same time.
