Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Can a bad battery cause the screen to turn off after a couple of minutes use. Ive inserted the recovery cd and hooked a external monitor up to the laptop and all is fine so far. prior to that the screen would flicker during the set up and then it would go black but using a touch you could see the data was still on the screen and you could still operate just in darkness with the aid of a torch.

My laptop Gateway ml6720 has a black screen Ive replaced the battery and power adapter no change. The fan comes on and it sounds like it boots up but no screen.

Sounds like either the screen or the video adapter has gone bad.
Do this: Connect the computer to an external monitor (there is a SVGA plug on the side of the computer. Be sure when you turn it on that you press teh Fn-special function key combo that switches the video output to the external monitor. If the external monitor works, then it's your computer's screen. Possibly the inverter. If the external monitor shows nothing, then it's the video card (which may be built into your motherboard).

no laptop stated ok W7 OS, nice to know.
hopeless?
nor external model screen stated
try a different external screen

any shop can fix it, ask them
no need to ship anything
get it checked out by a technician
we can test all 3 parts and tell you whats worn i minutes.
i can not understand your post
try to be more clear
does local LT screen work ok
does using a known directly connected screen (VGA)
on the LT you must turn on external screen using the fn hot key
the the external works,. do so, now
if both internal and external fail the LT is bad, guess, bad GPU chip
if only external fails, try a known working external screen
if that works your external is bad.
the docking is last, and if only it fails, then ITS BAD.

I have a light pink Sony Vaio VGN-CR510E and i've had it for a little over two years now. The screen has gone grey/white and will only return to the natural screen when the tops of the screen are squeezed,...

I wouldnt say beyond repair, if you were able to compress it and the screen would appear normal there is a connection problem, your monitor has small connections making it work one happens to be an inverter. It could be that the connection is loose, the bad thing about that is if its loose there is a chance it could cause a short which in return you will need an inverter or whole monitor.

1. try hooking it up to an external monitor, you need a vga or dvi cable and try hooking up to a projector or another monitor, if that doesnt work its your video card. unfortunately either fix is somewhat expensive. Good luck and please vote thank you.

if you have have hooked up an external monitor before here are some instructions

1. make sure the power is off

2. plug the vga cord to your laptop and to the external monitor, 15 pins normally blue or back has 15 little holes ive seen some that are pink.

3. turn both on

4. you may have to hit a function key thats the fn button plus (on mine is f4 small rectangle with a line on each side of it .

5. if the external monitor works then your monitor or the cables to your monitor are bad

6. if the external monitor doesnt work its your video card and you will need a new motherboard if the card is integrated.

The screen is black but the computer is running,

Try to hook up with external monitor in order to check if your lcd monitor have problem. If the external monitor have display that means your lcd monitor is defective. If the external monitor having no display in that case you have to check your system ram or memory or clearing your bios or cmos by removing your cmos battery for 5 seconds then insert again the battery. Then try again turn on your computer. Good Day

Hi, my laptop powers up but no screen appears. just the left two blue lights go on and then power light stays?

Turn it off, unplug it, remove battery, then press and hold power button for 5 full long seconds. Wait a couple minutes, put battery back in, plug in and turn it on.

This should fix the problem. If it still persists, check memory chips or try removing just one and see if that helps. Bad memory chips can cause this. But try first solution first.

Phone turns off every couple minutes and then turns on by itself.

What I would do is turn it off completelly for a few minutes. take out the battery and let it cool down for a few minutes. If you have a battery that if fully charged put it back in and turn on your phone. if your battery is not totally charged, charge it. A phone whose battery is not fully charged may cause your phone to flip out. sometimes it's also water damage to the phone that causes it to turn off on its own.
Water damage happends from body heat, from taking it to the bathroom when you're in the shower, or from putting it directly in water.

Hope this helps.

Black Screen

try hooking up an external video source. Check to see if the computer is actually booting up. if the computer boots up, then the LCD invertor or Backlight of the screen is bad, need to be replaced.

If the computer does not boot up after hooking up an external video source, then most likely your motherboard is bad!

need to be replaced.

Blank Screen

Hi,

If you can hear your windows loading but no display, try plug-in an external Monitory on your Laptop. If you can see the display on the screen with this monitor then maybe your LCD or Inverter is broken, or try turning on/off the switch for External Monitor and LCD Display on your keyboard. Usually by holding the "FN" key on your keyboard and look for the LCD/VGA icon on your keys then press it.
